The dead people pile up in this one too as our intrepid hero overcomes all her personal problems to solve the jigsaw again. I recommend all readers of crime stories to take a look at this one, You wont be disappointed.
Hoping and praying!!!!
Omg. I can’t wait for 2021
I liked the tie ins with Peter and his son Jake, and I guess book three will tell us how that pans out.
And a new career for Kate as well.
I really enjoy Rob’s style of writing and while I am writing this review I’m wondering what would have ramped it up for me.
I could actually picture the dam, the old manor, so that must account for something.
I’ve actually visited that area looking for long lost relatives (I live in the land down under).
Can’t wait for the next book.
By the way? What is Erica up to?

With Shadow Sands, Robert Bryndza ha provided readers with yet another top class novel full of mystery, tension and dark secrets, and in which our protagonist, Kate, finds herself pulled into an investigation that many people, the police included, would rather she just forget. It's a very tangled story, so many elements that are carefully and skilfully pulled together, that from the very beginning I found myself totally immersed ion Kate's world and wondering just which of the many suspects might be behind the grizzly deed and, more importantly, why. The author does a brilliant job of keeping readers guessing, introducing clues in the form of narration from the killer's perspective so carefully that you start to build up a clear picture of the kind of person they are up against, without having a clear vision of who they are. And believe me, there are any people in the frame this time around.
I love that in this series we get not only the investigation but also an insight into the personal lives of the two main characters, Kate and Tristan. We are well aware of Kate's complicated personal life after reading Nine Elms, but while it may have appeared that life was finally turning in her favour, it seems fate has other ideas and it seems we're not quite ready to close a door on that chapter of her life just yet. We also get to learn a bit more about Tristan this time around and getting to know him, and his family life, really helps bring him to life as a character. The more I know, the more I like him and he's certainly the perfect partner-in-crime-fighting for Kate. In fact it is Tristan's complicated personal life that draws the pair into an unexpected change of direction with the case, adding another layer of urgency to an already pacy plot.
If you are a fan of the author's crime thrillers you are going to love this latest adventure. Full of menace, the killer will make your skin crawl and the more I read, the more invested I became in some of the characters, the moreI could feel the tension build. It had me suspicious of nearly everyone, our protagonists aside, and from the very start I was completely engrossed in the story. The pacing is just perfect, the way in which Robert Bryndza uses the atmospheric conditions surrounding the reservoir and the remote landscape to add an unsettling edge to the story completely en-pointe. The more I read, the more I am loving this series and, seeing how this one has ended, I cannot wait for book three.

Well, yet again the author did not disappoint. What a start to novel and just thinking of Kate and her son even now as they uncover the dead body sends chills down my spine. Trouble never seems to be far away where Kate is concerned, especially with a past such as hers. I am really enjoying the pairing of her and Tristan and they have all the markings of a great partnership.
We get to know Kate’s trusted side kick, Tristan, more in this book which I loved. I have to admit his sister Sarah wound me up with her attitude and small mindedness and a few times I wanted to give her a good shake. I felt for Tristan as he struggles with certain aspects of his personal life but it all adds in making the main characters more appealing to the reader and by the end, I was desperate to read more from this pair.
The story centres around Shadow Sands which was a great location for a crime book. Kate being an ex copper, hasn’t lost her ability to pick up when something is not right. She also can’t leave things alone which makes things much more interesting. It soon becomes a race against time for the pair and have to say I love how it all ends.
Shadow Sands is a novel that has a lot riding on it. To follow on from such a phenomenal book, the pressure must really have been on the author to create another brilliant novel with expectations undoubtedly being high. Robert Bryndza has more than achieved that with this book though. It is dark, disturbing yet every bit as thrilling as the previous one. I love how he has kept certain aspects of Kate’s past open and I just know there are more thrills and chills awaiting us in future books in the series. Kudos to the author as he has well and truly nailed it.

Mixed in with all of this, we are reminded that the criminal that Kate caught in her last ordeal, Peter Conway, is still in the Psychiatric Hospital serving his sentence for murder, and he is now asking to see her. It was a nice touch for him to make a reappearance and I am sure we will hear more of him in the future.
This was a great read and the ending was so exciting I couldn’t put it down and it almost caused me to burn the dinner! I have already ordered the next in this series, which I look forward to reading, as it sounds like it will be every bit as good. In the meantime I also have my fingers crossed that there will shortly be another Erika Foster novel.
