#1 New York Times bestselling author Christine Feehan returns to her scorching hot series starring a Chicago crime family that has built its empire in the shadows . . .
Billionaire playboy Ricco Ferraro knows no other life. Being a shadow rider is in his blood-but so is a haunting desperation stemming from the secrets of his dark past. His recklessness not only puts his life at risk, but the future of his entire family. To save them all, he must find a woman who can meet his every desire with a heat all her own . . .
Just when Ricco has given up hope, he meets her-a mysterious woman whose shadow connects with his. She's someone looking for a safe haven from the danger that has stalked her over the last several months. In Ricco's embrace, she finds one. But the darkness in which they so often find sanctuary can also consume them . . .

As warned, his crazy lifestyle, as come back to bite him in his butt. His haunted past rears it's ugly head and the whole Ferraro family are in danger.
Mariko Majo applies to be his rope model. Their shadows immediately merge but it's not just the job she wants!?
This book wasn't exactly what I was expecting, (in a good way!). I feared the overwritten bdsm scene, the Dom and the 'yes sir' , woman. I was pleasantly surprised to find she had a backbone and was a well written, good character. He was a decent man and a lot deeper than his reputation suggests.
Unfortunately, for me, I felt the first few chapters dragged. The repetition of certain words and phases drove me mad. The picture was clear it didn't need to be told over and over. The center of the book was definitely more riveting, the action scenes were good, very disturbing, but page turning. The actual rope tying scenes were knowledgeable and well written, albeit a little long in the tooth, once he started his 'art', it went on and on.
Like the first, this book, is full of cousins and immediate family. The characters are slowly coming to life ready for their own stories.
This is definitely better than the first book, the main characters are much improved and the storyline, although very gruesome and bloody, held a spark of Ms. Feehan's earlier works. BUT...there is still a lot of unwanted blah blah blah but fortunately not pages and pages of endless, boring sex scenes.
I loved Ricco's back story and I liked the shibaru angle too as it was something different. Ricco is the typical attractive arrogant alpha male that Christine Feehan likes to give us. Whenever I had to put the book down, I couldn't wait to pick it back up. I loved every minute of reading this book, and I'm now impatiently waiting for book 3.
My one quibble is a weird formatting issue that has the first letter of the first word of every chapter as a large letter... and nothing else on the page! It was strange and very annoying. Hopefully that'll get straightened out soon.
Enjoyed the characters a lot, good twists and turns, would recommend to any Feehan lover!
Only thing I had problem with was how the story would jump through times frames, but would have been a very long book otherwise so can understand why
I have an idea that the rest of this family will all have their own books as well and this is rightly so
