Shadow Falling has everything I want in a post-apocalyptic/romance novel— a sexy, badass hero, action that kept me on the edge of my seat, hot, sizzling romance and a cast of unique and intriguing characters.

Ms Zanetti creates a realistic, merciless world with her beautiful, detailed writing and right from the start I was swept away into this fast-paced and suspenseful ride with Vinnie, Raze and rest of the Vanguard clan.

While Shadow Falling can certainly be read as a stand-alone, I recommend reading Mercury Striking first for a deeper understanding of the characters and their world.

Every character in this book is complex and believable, and their dynamics are fascinating. Vinnie and Raze won me over right away. Vinnie is a strong, stubborn, headstrong heroine whose past holds her hostage and Raze is a tough, sexy, alpha male who has to rethink his secret mission when Vinnie comes into his life. Their passion is real and raw in the midst of the uncertainty and danger of their new and ruthless world.

I’ve fallen head over heels in love with these characters and this world, and I cannot wait to continue on with this series in Justice Ascending.

Shadow Falling by Rebecca Zanetti

Intense and fast-moving post-apocalyptic romantic suspense. Second in the series.
It's a soldiers world where the strong survive and are in charge. It's a thrilling ride with a lot of shooting, hostage taking and death threats. And pounding/banging/thrusting sex scenes.

"when things are at their worst, true character is revealed. Jax is a survivor and so is Raze. But they go beyond making sure they survive to actually saving and shielding other people. Character."
"The apocalypse has revealed heroes."

In this story, Vivienne is rescued by Raze Shadow and the two are soon emotional attached and sexually attracted.
I'm not sure I like the strong man attitude that prevails with this storyline (both books and heroes). Specifically the spanking as punishment. Really?
I do like the visual of keeping socks in an oven that doesn't work anymore and the appreciation of things we take for granted in today's world. Like lotion. A reminder to appreciate the good things in life.

I received a copy of this book from NetGalley.

Vivienne Wellington used to be one of the FBI’s top profilers until the Scorpius Syndrome hit. In a fit of Ripper psychosis, The President of the United States (or what’s left of the United States) took Vinnie hostage believing her to have developed telepathic sensibilities. He planned to use her to help him find the mythical Bunker—a secreted lab said to house a myriad of supplies and medicines. Fortunately, Vinnie was rescued by one of Jax Mercury’s Vanguard soldiers Raze Shadow. Now, a week after being rescued, Vinnie’s thinking maybe the President wasn’t so far off with his assumptions, what with her starting to see dead people and just generally being able to sense people’s thoughts. One thing’s for sure, she doesn’t have to be crazy to acknowledge how attracted she is to her mysterious rescuer.

Raze Shadow has been a mystery with a hidden agenda from the moment he showed up in Vanguard territory. He has one job he needs to accomplish and he won’t let his growing allegiance to Jax and the home he’s built get in his way. That is, until he’s the one to pull Vinnie out of the hell she’d been trapped in. Now, his loyalties are split between his real mission and a possibly crazy PhD.

I was really impressed with Mercury Striking when it was released earlier this year, and Shadow Falling doesn’t disappoint in that Rebecca Zanetti does a really good job of fleshing out and continuing this world. It’s not just Raze and Vinnie’s book. Other characters get their own perspectives, plus there are some new and promising characters introduced as well. This just heightens everything for this post-apocalyptic world and makes it feel very well rounded. We see where the series came from and a clear path of where things are going next, which I really loved.

Unfortunately, it’s kind of a double-edged sword because what this also does is take away some of the growth in mainly Vinnie’s character and the budding feelings between her and Raze. I didn’t take to their romance like I did to Lynn and Jax’s.

I really liked Vinnie’s quirky crazy self. All the drugs the President pumped through her system, in hopes of heightening her ESP, are kind of combatant with the Scorpius virus she already has in her system. Since the full effects of Scorpius are unknown at this point (it seems like it affects everyone’s brain differently), it was interesting to see the changes that occur in Vinnie as she’s experiencing them too. We just didn’t get enough of this.

There were also some internal Vanguard issues that pop up seemingly out of nowhere in this book and are dealt with in almost the same fashion. I think if this storyline would have been developed over the course of this book and maybe the next, the impact would have been felt more.

Raze’s own story was done pretty well, and this may stem from the fact that he was featured more in the first book so we already had the idea that he has secrets that may not coincide with Vanguard objectives.

Considering how the series has gone so far, I’m hoping Vinnie will get some more page time/growth in the next book Justice Ascending. Overall this has been an entertaining series and I cannot stress how much I think reading prequel novella Scorpius Rising (featured in On the Hunt anthology) is important to entirely understanding this world.

5.0 out of 5 stars This world of the Scorpuis virus is fast paced, sexy, so well written and frustratingly believable! 31 August 2016

Love it! Zanetti's characters are always well written, complex, and consistant in their reactions to the world they live in. .As with her other series the world building is excellent and believable and frustratingly real and well researched. The main characters here, Rafe and Vinnie:) have a relationship that builds through an internal conflict of Rafes and the interesting recuperation of Vinnie and her run in with the virus and its aftermath. I love how the characters we know and love from the first book are so well represented here, the world Zanetti has created would follow that premise and she does it so well. I would imagine you could read it as a stand alone, but I bet you go searching for the first book, and then all of Zanetti's books if this is the first of hers you pick up.

5.0 out of 5 stars RAZE...YUM! 31 August 2016

After reading Shadow Falling I knew I had to take a couple days to think about my feelings for this book. I obviously LOVED it, there is no doubt about that. But there is more to it then that and I hope I can find someway to express it.

First off, This fantastic Scorpius Syndrome series by Rebecca Zanetti is dark, edgy, sexy, and completely AWE-MAZING! The characters are intense and wonderfully intriguing and are both intelligent, fun, tough, caring, and are irresistible. They are the kind of characters I would be excited to know in real life, but they are intimidating enough (especially the men) to where I would be stuttering and shy around them. And the descriptions from Scorpius and the science behind a possible cure, to the way the men protect and go on missions is really something. Everything seems so realistic that once I put the book down, it took a few minutes to realize that that world is fiction. I really loved that feeling.

The romance...oh my god the romance and sex, are both sizzling! The post apocalypse brought out the barbarian in our hero and to be honest, it was brilliant and sexy, and just the right amount of dark. Its hard to resist a man that will do anything to protect the woman he falls for, even if it means tying her up to keep her safe. Raze is strong, commanding, all-consuming and full of sexiness! Vinnie is sweet, surprisingly strong after everything she endured, and determined to belong and help those that need it. I loved her bit of craziness and her loyalty and love of Raze. This book is just one stunner after another.

Shadow Falling gets a SIZZLING FIVE SHOOTING STARS! Its a dark, tempting, action packed ride that will leave readers hearts pounding and their knees weak. A MUST MUST READ!!

5.0 out of 5 stars An explosive ride 1 September 2016

The post-apocalyptic world Rebecca Zanetti created will draw you in, make you fall in love, and spit you back out a different person. Raze Shadow is a soldier on a mission and secrets behind his eyes. Vivienne Wellington was an FBI profiler who made a name for herself before the world went to hell.

Vivienne can tell Raze has secrets and doesn't think she can trust him but falls for him anyway. Raze, fighting his attraction to Vivienne knows he will ultimately hurt and betray her. Keeping her at a distance, he sees no other alternative. His secret is too important to fail, yet Vivienne brings out a side of him that questions whether he can truly betray her. When they finally give in to each other they are explosive and perfect together. Together, overcoming the obstacles, they fight in a kill or be killed world and still find out that in order to fight - you have to have something to fight for.
