Shades: Sublimely perfect.
Jamie Reese had me at A Better Man, I loved her Men of Halfway House series and I was so sad when no further books came out after Van and Dray finally got their HEA. So to see this newest release I squealed like any fan-girl should.
Shades, was so, so damn good, like seriously, seriously good. Great, fascinating depth of character to both protagonists, very interesting history for each man which explained what had shaped how and why they became the men they were. I can't really say too much because I might accidentally give away some spoilers and ruin it for everyone. If I can offer something, its definitely read this book, so worth it.
Ian ( Killian) Marks third generation hitman was a fabulous hero, all dark, deadly, introspective and so very dangerous, his reputation preceded him and for a man who dealt in death daily, his moral compass was very defined. As was his fierce commitment to Nick, their connection was so perfectly real it was almost tangible, a love of the ages and one that needed no words.
Nick Holloway strong, calm, resourceful, resilient and compassionate, was perfect for Ian. Nick for all his ducking and weaving the danger that followed him, wasn't a damsel in distress. He could and did stand on his own two feet and take on any challenge, but it was his unwavering acceptance and love for Ian that was compelling and everything that Ian never expected he'd ever get. That calm unconditional devotion made Nick absolutely divine as a hero, and brought forth from Ian, the urge to protect and keep that no bullet was ever going to come between. Together the men were perfect, soul mates finally coming together.
Add in a great plot ( hitman working jobs) great secondary characters in Dex ( Killian's quasi brother/offsider) and Ramon ( Killian's client/friend) and even the baddie Petrov, this book had everything you could possibly want in a fabulous novel: action, fight scene, shootouts, danger, violence, smoking hot sexy times, devotion, dedication and enduring love.
Thank the heavens that Jamie Reese gave us another standout novel. So worth the wait. Hands down absolutely Highly recommended.
