Until the night they gave in to their desires and suddenly took their relationship one step further. In the aftermath of their one-night stand, they’re called out on a mission that goes terribly wrong, and P.J. walks away from KGI, resolved not to drag her teammates into the murky shadows she’s poised to delve into.Six months later, Cole hasn’t given up his search for P.J., and he’s determined to bring her back home where she belongs. Bent on vengeance, P.J. has plunged into a serpentine game of payback that will make her question everything she’s ever believed in. But Cole—and the rest of their team—refuse to let her go it alone. Even if it means sacrificing their loyalty to KGI, and their lives…

This might be my favorite of the KGI novels. It's completely intimidating and confrontational - but there is something strong about these characters that make it unique. I don't like to read anything gruesome when reading for pleasure, and to be honest the heroine's rape scene was horrific, but it is well written and you understand why Maya banks provided so much detail. I have read some of the reviews that saying that it was too detailed. I believe she wrote it this way so we as the readers can see and feel how PJ felt through all the stuff she went through. I am glad she wrote it this way because it was like I felt everything that PJ went through. I have to say that out of all the KGI books so far this will be the one that I remember the most. It had action scenes in it and some romance. But what I enjoyed the most was when PJ and Cole relationship and how it grew and withstood some crazy obstacles. I also liked that we got to see all of the others from within this family - support and connect. If you have enjoyed all the KGI books so far you will enjoy this one. Be warned, this book at times is uncomfortable, I found it to be well worth the experience as the story is truly unique. This is still a heartwarming story of love, passion, devotion and loyalty. Along with all this we have the action/adventure chasing down the bad guys, and appearances by our favourite characters from previous books. Highly recommended

PJ and Cole's story was the hardest of all for me to take in. It was very raw and harsh for me. There were times when I felt physically ill reading some of the pages. But the best part of the book was how Steele and his team with KGI fought for PJ. No one was prepared to let her go no matter what. Loved the team spirit.

I couldn't put this down once I started. I thought the ones before this one in the KGI series were good but not as good as this story

4.0 out of 5 stars KGI = Love, Loyalty, Friendship, Family, and Strength of Character! 15 October 2014

While everyone is certainly entitled to their opinion I am honestly surprised by all of the negative reviews. I read and review on a daily basis and just got around to this series. I love KGI and appreciate the fact that Ms. Banks didn't just bang out six books in a row that picked off each brother into love and marriage but has interjected the stories of the supporting characters that also make up the KGI family.

This was a hard story, no doubt. I wasn't thrilled that P.J. was raped any more than the rest of the readers, it's a horrific thing. Having said that I think what it did was to take a woman who is a badass sniper fighting for her place in a mans game and exposed the feminine side of her. Could this have been achieved in other ways? Perhaps, but with a character like P.J. it would have been a tough sell without something extreme to push her there. This in no way makes P.J. a weak female and her initial instincts were to go solo and exact revenge which she did in fact do allowing us to see that she is still tough as nails. Of course her team never accepts her departure and shows up when she needs them the most. Together they take care of business while along the way allowing us to see the complete woman that is P.J. while as her and Colt explore their relationship and eventually fall in love.

The importance of the KGI series is that amongst the angst and chaos the consistent message is friendship, love, family, and loyalty and we see that shine in all of the characters.

While remembering that these books are for entertainment and to allow you to escape, if you want something real then I suggest you start reading non-fiction. If you want a story that provides drama, love, and strength of character and loyalty, then I suggest you read this book and the rest of the KGI series. I highly recommend them!

3.0 out of 5 stars ***SPOILER ALERT*** 12 October 2013

I'm not quite sure how I feel about this story...thus, the middle-of-the-road 3 star rating. I looked forward to PJ's story, then I read the book. PJ was brutally raped at the first of the story. The rest of the story is her road to revenge. Sure, she and Cole finally get together but her bloodthirsty quest for justice was hard to take. I'm not sure the romance could ever hope to mean much after the graphic rape scene. MB didn't give us a visual description but she did give us a chilling verbal audio. PJ's team was listening in during the entire rape. As a reader I could hear in my head the snick of a knife opening, her screams as the knife sunk into her flesh, the telltale sounds of sex, her quiet sobs, then to make it worse, if possible, the next man moving in and taking his turn. It was frankly disturbing. I managed to finish the book. While a story that provokes my emotions is something I usually look forward to, this was just a little too much. I'll leave it to each reader to decide if they can handle it. I gave spoilers here so everyone would know what they're getting into. MB...this story made me hesitant to read the next in the series and wonder if I may expect more of the same. I'm used to your stories having violence, but this, every woman's nightmare, just crossed a line for me. And, unfortunately, I'll never be able to look at your books the same. They'll all provoke memories I wish I could remove from my brain. We will have to see if I can stomach another.

3.0 out of 5 stars One difficult scene brought the entire stack of cards down 19 March 2017

After such great characters, great pacing, and a decent storyline. The tactical errors of this team, the rookie mistakes they made and the fact that the main character got raped while the team was in a vehicle listening is astounding. From a military standpoint, these kinds of mistakes cost lives and I was disappointed in the fact that P.J actually drank something an enemy gave her. I've yet to meet anyone, even in the civilian world, who would make such a rookie move. While the scene really bothered I will say that P.J's comeback was brilliantly executed, hence the three star rating. I just couldn't swallow the fact that an elite team of warriors fubared on this operation so badly. There are precautions set into place for instances like this that weren't included in this scene. It was difficult to read.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good, but had the potential to be great.... 27 January 2013

I have to say I did enjoy this book, but it is definitely not your typical romance. I honestly do not see why everyone is making such a huge deal about the rape scene. Suzanne Brockmann included a rape scene in her third Troubleshooters installment too, and I didn't see all this fuss over it.

The thing is that while this series is a romantic suspense series, these are not the types of books where everything is sunshine and roses. If you want that, get away from the romantic suspense genre. I think Maya is trying to be a little realistic here. To think that every single KGI mission is going to go off without a hitch is ridiculous. There have to be some casualties. So far, the only KGI members to get seriously hurt recover very quickly and then it is right back to work. In a job like that, there are going to be things that happen that are traumatic and cannot be easily forgotten.

Now all that being said, I do not think this was Maya's best work. This story was really just about PJ. I don't feel that it was PJ and Cole's story. I feel like she is the only character that got any development in the story. I think the relationship in this story could have used a little more focus, because if I had not read the entire series, I would have had no idea that PJ and Cole have been dancing around each other for a while. When they are suddenly madly in love in this book, I would have been like "WHOA, where did that come from?" The book just did not flow very well. It seemed rushed.

I think the topics in this book were very heavy, and in some ways Maya handled them realistically, in others not so much.

I would definitely read it again one day, but it is far from my favorite KGI book.

3.0 out of 5 stars I usually enjoy Maya Banks KGI novels 14 May 2015

I usually enjoy Maya Banks KGI novels. This one was much too graphic with the violence. I have never quite felt any type of affinity for PJ, and in this book she really goes off the rails. Her quest for vengeance and her methods of delivering it cross the line completely. Guess when they say that the female is deadlier than the male this is a good example. I found it quite difficult to believe that Cole found her attractive.
