Product description

Product Description

Mackenzie Allen Phillips's youngest daughter, Missy, has been abducted during a family vacation, and evidence that she may have been brutally murdered is found in an abandoned shack deep in the Oregon wilderness. Four years later, in this midst of his great sadness, Mack receives a suspicious note, apparently from God, inviting him back to that shack for a weekend. Against his better judgment he arrives at the shack on wintry afternoon and walks back into his darkest nightmare. What he finds there will change his life forever.

The shack addresses the desparate grief of a parent who has a child snatched away in the worst of circumstances. How forgivness and trust in God can be a journey of acknowledgement in the human quest for control rather than simply forgiving and realising that forgiving and realising the pure goodness in God is infinite. Grab the tissues and enjoy the journey.

Yet another pseudo-religious, pop psychology self help book. Soppy, saccharine and a waste of time. If you are religious, you may already believe this stuff; if you are not; this book will provide nothing you can't think of yourself. And, of course, the Americans are making it into a movie. It'll be a blockbuster, no doubt.

I didn't like it. It got really boring. Disappointed as it is a best seller.

Phew, firstly let me say, this is a fantastic book, and to try to summarize it into a couple of paragraphs will definitely fall short of reading the novel for yourself. Young pens a story that follows the life, devastation, childhood and redemption of Mack Philips.

I'm not sure of the theological "correctness" of Young's novel nor of it's potential to win awards based on it's English and grammar, but it's a book that captures ones imagination, you find yourself dwelling on it long after you've closed the cover. It's a book that leaves you longing for that day when we can see God face to face, and run into the arms of Jesus. It's a book that leaves you smiling: smiling at the quirkiness yet grace and wisdom of "Papa", smiling at Jesus, the God-man, brilliantly human and inexplicably God at the same time, and smiling at the shimmery, incomprehensible pictures of Sarayu. While the three of them are depicted as separate persons, it's obvious to see where they overlap, how they're intertwined, they're so intimately each other and the same. It's impossible to split them.

Like Mack, I too felt like I wanted an emotional scene where he says goodbye to Papa, yet Young's words struck me and rung unashamedly true..

"He hadn't had the chance to say goodbye, but as he thought about it, saying goodbye to God did seem a little silly."

And as we too think about it, perhaps saying goodbye to God is a little silly, He is everywhere after all. This book reminded me of that.

Yes, I am especially fond of this book.

A great story for anyone looking for emotional healing. A great person -- especially if you dare to listen to what is being said WITH YOUR HEART.

One of the greatest Christian books I have ever read. By comparison, everything else comes a poor 'second'. I have sent multiples copies of The Shack into the sex offenders wing of a major prison, and it traveled like wildfire. I'd recommend this book to anyone who has the slightest interest in life, death and eternity.
