Product Description

One simple decision can end a future.
One simple persuasion can sever a life.

The moment Annisyn Kane slips her rake pick into the lock of a stranger's door, the straight life she's led the last few years is scratched out. In the past, the goal was never theft. It was to escape. From life. From death. To quiet the dreams that replayed an affliction she longed to forget. This night, though, was different. She was out of options.

The isolated house was supposed to be an easy target. In and out. No problems. But the simple job takes a twisted turn when Annisyn comes face to face with the only real love she ever had.

Five years ago, she could have persuaded Damian Mead to stay. She wasn't willing to be the end of his future, so she let him go. Before the emotions from their tangled past have a chance to spin between them, Annisyn discovers that their startling encounter is the least of the night's problems. There's someone else in the house, and the only thing on his mind is revenge.

5.0 out of 5 stars Exciting! 9 July 2015

WOW. J.M. Miller has done it again. She knocked it out of the park with sever.

This book alternates between the past and the present. By the end of the book it beautifully ties together and tells a wonderful story. The POV remains the same though throughout the book so it keeps the information very clean and easy to follow. Even though it alternated between now and then, I was never confused on felt like information was lost.

The book tells a story of a girl who is forced to face her personal demons. Her dark past is tastefully covered in a slow enough manner leaving you begging for more information all the way to the end, where it's finally all tied together. Her here and now is a tangled mess of misunderstands, broken hearts and over all bad luck. Talk about the wrong place at the wrong time, this is they ultimate case. You are left begging to know is fate really that cruel, or is this all a dark and twisted plan?

Anticipation and suspense are definitely the dominate mood. You will literally be on the edge of your seat for the most part of this story. I felt like I was lost in an action film for a little bit! Just be warned, you won't be able to put it down once you really get into to it, so make sure you start when you have plenty of time to read!

The woman is a strong, hard headed woman that you will be cheering for the whole way. She is feisty and spunky in all the right ways. Although she has a past, and some insecurities, she is not whiny or flaky at all. I tend to find woman characters annoying, but never felt that way in this story. The male character is amazing. I love his history with the female. It's precious how they build their bond, and how their relationship grew. The chemistry between the two is apparent. You know that even though the situation they are infatuated with each other. If you are not a fan of a lot of erotic sex scenes, this book will be perfect. There is a little sex, but very little. The story line really holds it's own and the sex is really not important, only a little bonus.

I highly recommend this book, especially to those you love excitement, dark pasts, rocky relationships (with out drama), and strong female characters. Miller is amazing and I highly recommend that you pick up any of her books.
4.0 out of 5 stars Slow start, but ended up a fantastic, suspenseful and sweet read 22 March 2016

I picked up this book when it was on sale for $.99…the cover really drew me in to it, and the synopsis sounded pretty intriguing. My attention had certainly been grabbed. However, when I began reading it the book started off very slow for me, and I was having a real hard time getting into the story. I nearly pushed it aside and said forget about it, which is something I VERY rarely do. Instead, I put it aside for a few days and took a break, and then picked it up again…and boy am I glad that I did. Not long after I picked it up again did the story start to move, the pace quickened, and the suspense started.

I really enjoyed how each chapter went back and forth between past and present so you got an insight into everything. I have always enjoyed this in a book, and the way the author did it here was very well executed.

I really liked the characters. Annisyn “Syn” had grown up a tomboy. She played football with the guys when she was younger, and was probably better than most. This idea reminded me of the movie “Little Giants” (Which was one of my favorite movies when I was younger and made me wish I could play football lol). She was strong, independent, and seemingly fearless, which was often a dangerous combination that ended her in trouble with the law. Although strong in many ways, she also had demons that she would not talk about, and they seemed to be eating her alive.

And Damian…my God, Damian! He was darn sexy, and I don’t think he even realized it. As a young boy growing up he was a bit chunky, not popular, he was often laughed at, and couldn’t play sports if his life depended on it. The exact opposite of his brother (who was a real jerk-wad). Well, years later on the outside he was the complete opposite of his younger self, but on the inside he was still that little insecure boy who never stopped loving the girl that saved his life.

When Annisyn first met Damian, she not only saved him that day, but saved him for each day forward. Their story was not an easy one, never had been, and it seemed fate wanted to keep them apart as well.

What started off as a dud for me, ended up being a fantastic story that had me on the edge of my seat. If the beginning had been a little less sluggish then I most likely would have rated the book a 5 star, but I couldn’t bring myself to rate it that based on the beginning. There were also some minor editing issues, but nothing that took away from the focus of the story for me, so it didn’t bother me at all.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great read! 6 February 2015

There are Indie authors and there are Indie effing authors. I believe J.M. Miller falls into the latter category. She writes for the craft of it - to tell her story - to engage readers - and just pure passion. And it really shows in this book. I don't read much in the way of Indie authors these days, but she had me hooked with The Line That Binds. I don't know what the next level of hooked is, but suffice it to say I'm there.

But you're not reading this to know just what a great author I think she is. You want to know if this is a good book. Each chapter seamlessly transitions you from past to present as seen through Syn's eyes. It's a risky gamble for any author, but Miller succeeds beautifully. One minute you're in a high suspense drama, wondering what's going to happen next, the next you've been dropped into the not so distant past, learning to love Syn and Damian, and waiting with bated breath for their next kiss. So basically, you can't put the book down until it's over. Not a bad place to be in...unless you started the book late one evening and had to work the next day.

Even at the standard Indie price point, this book is a steal. And one you won't regret 1-clicking.

This was an emotional rollercoaster. The alternating past and present chapters told the story of Syn in perfect unison. The slow revelations of her past combined with the high stress of her current situation kept me on edge. A twist I honestly never saw coming really clenched this story as JM Miller’s best to date. With some spicy scenes and adult situations this fits into the NA genre perfectly. Between her previous YA and paranormal romance books, I don’t think there is a genre that she can’t excel writing in. I recommend this for all who love a great romance with characters who struggle to overcome their own perceptions of themselves.
3.0 out of 5 stars I liked it 24 December 2016

I was pulled in right from the beginning, making my 'oh, I'll just start a new book before falling asleep' into 'whoopsie, it's 2 am!'

The back-and-forth from the past to the present gave us insight into the characters. I'll say this again, Ms. Miller has a knack of making me fall for her heroes!

All in all, I liked it and recommend it to anyone. It managed to keep me guessing and keep me on my toes. 3.5 stars.
