Review
Brutal, shockingly realistic and satisfyingly unpredictable, this is a thrilling, chilling tale with an eclectic cast, formidable star player and charismatic location ideally suited to the small screen. ― Clitheroe Advertiser

Getting to know you, getting to know all about you...

This picks up after the events in 'The Murder Wall' as some time has passed and people have moved on a little. It wouldn't be essential to read that first but I'd recommend doing so as Kate develops from where she was in that, in this. But there's still lots to learn..
This time around Kate is drawn into a nail-biting race against time in her efforts to find a missing girl. And this time too, her sexuality is entirely incidental to the story, not a factor in it. Kate is a complex character and I still want to know more: Why is her relationship with her father quite so fractured? Will she ever put her personal relationships above her job? Can she and Jo find their way back to each other? After this detailed and gritty tale I want to know more, more, more!

This series is just brilliant!!!

In The Murder Wall, we met police detectives Kate Daniels, a brilliantly interesting character and her side-kick, Hank Gormley. Once again, we are back in the North East, with the delightful Kate investigating the murder of a student dropped from a height onto the picturesque Hadrien's Wall.
I really LOVE this series and how the characters have matured and developed. It is the sign of a great book, when you grow very fond of a set of characters (Kate, Jo and Hank in particular) and want to know more about them. In the first book, I found Kate rather puzzling at times, with her secrecy. I feel in Settled Blood that the characters are much more established and I know Kate enough to understand her reasoning and her behaviours.
An excellent series worth reading! I'm starting Book three now.

Fast moving with plenty of twists

It’s a few years since I read the first of the ‘Kate Daniels’ novels but I’m pleased that a friend reminded me about them and I picked up Settled Blood. Although I enjoyed The Murder Wall I found it somewhat tentative whereas it’s follow up is pacier and much more confident. As a local, I particularly enjoyed the geographical detail as I felt it took me right into the heart of the action. Don’t think I’ll leave it so long before picking up #3.

An enjoyable series of books

I have enjoyed reading the second book in this series. The characters are well developed and make you engage with them. The storyline is interesting with enough twists to keep you guessing. Looking forward to reading the third book.

Excellent read - totally addicted.

I only read Murder Wall 5 days ago and started work on this straight after - really good read. Very likable, flawed characters (well murder and happy family life must be a difficult ask!); great plot (it would take someone much cleverer than me to spot the twists in this one) with clues and red herrings scattered.
As a resident of Newcastle, I love the location and attention to detail.
Some have compared her to Ian Rankin - I like her more.
Book 3 here I come......
