Order/Delivery etc all good.
Now the headphones.
Slipping them on after charged in a noisy a/c workshop, the background noise just melted away to a very very soft ssssshhhhhh. Huh, where did the sound go! Tried again and again as unbelievable. Not the ultimate but very very good.
Paired blue tooth and operation was easy, and very very quick to pair in future. With head sense active turn right cup to normal position place on head and by then they have turned on the music player and sound resumes from where you left off. Take off to pause sound. Put back on to play sound. simplezzzzzz.
Note: need to activate head detection in the app as not on by default.
Undecided on a couple of things.
Power switch=none. just twist right ear to normal position its on, twist to store position and its off. Ok it does work and no problems so far. Just need to remember to leave it in the store position when placing down. In the store case it must be placed in the off position.
Residual sssshhh noise is very low, but noticeable. Only when NO audio playing or using talk through mode. Any audio at all and its not detectable.
Maybe it will help sleeping on a plane?
Music sounds not just very good but awesome with APTX (i assume, as no idea how to verify with Samsung S6 but specs say both devices support it) and playback presets are a bit of a gimmick, or are they? The app lets you customise a setting but for default I find that I like the CLUB mode which boosts the bass and adds some sound separation. Ok it is a good addition then.
The headband feels like it is an initial weird position needing to be very forward on the head (cant be changed). This is what takes the most getting used to in this model for me. However after a couple of hours wearing and 2 days on/off it isn't a problem, just get used to it!
I find these are comfortable even for long periods (not as good as the HD598 for sure) but very good. Build quality seems good and understated, marks and highlights make sure you don't standout from the crowd too much. At first I thought thery were a a bit flimsy but think its ok However these guys are so light at about 250grams total weight its easy to forget they are on. Why buy a heavy 800gram pair when these feel like a feather!
The ear cup size is just big enough for me (average size 60yo man i guess) without any slop movement. HD 598 are larger and seem just a little more comfortable but the firm fit mean they are not moving around even with activity.
Overall an excellent product that does meet my expectations in function and performance in every way. Now thats actually incredible.
Dislikes: not too comfortable if you have too wear them for longer than 4 hours, noise cancellation could be better,
For the price there good enough value but I will be going back to bose when the next ones come out.
Using my pair in the office (fair way above street level and powerful a/c), I feel a little bit pressure inside the cans, no such issues taking a bus ride. Hoping these help me keeping my sanity through soon long-haul flight. Overall hoping these to be a bit more comfortable, but maybe it's about my head shape.
And in the bus I was astonished about the noise cancellation and how well these cans work. Taken some calls and the headset seems to be a good value as well.
My references are Shure 525 IEMs and AKG K701 opens, I am get by day more impressed with PXC 550s with my taste of sound stage and music. I can't compare to other similar performance and price range cans, but PXC550s are not bad, quite good and pleasing, but not perfect either.
Noise cancellation was good, equivalent almost to the Bose QC35IIs which I bought instead and love.
It's a shame as I wanted to like these headphones from Sennheiser.
The noise cancelling on these are amazing. I have used them in extremely load settings, shopping centres, airports and commuting, you can not hear anything but the music. The bluetooth is as convenient as bluetooth can be and the addition of being able to use a cable is nice if you find yourself out of battery. The range is not bad The sound is good, fairly neutral across the board but the main selling point of these, and any travelling headphone is the noise cancelling. Build quality is okay, I think they spent more time on the actual technology, not to say its bad, I still think its better than the Bose QC range. They do use some high quality materials and the overall matte plastic looks good with silver accents. I am extremely happy with these. The sound quality of the PXC 550 is great. However, it is so small that hurts my head.
The Bluetooth pairing to a MacBook is also disastrous. It claims to support multiple devices but couldn't properly tell the difference between my MacBook and my iPhone.
From time to time, it enters to some kind of phone call mode and wouldn't leave. Music sounds weird in that mode.
Also, there has been no new firmware for a long time. It is a dated product without much care, unfortunately.
I'm happy that Amazon accepted the return of this product.
I have bought the Bose QC 35 II instead. It doesn't have the problems described above. QC 35 II is not suitable for uses on airplanes but that's another story.
