Product Description

A sexy ebook about two seventeen-year-olds—one a victim of human trafficking; the other the son of the man who enslaved her—who fall in love and question everything they ever believed…

Haven Antonelli and Carmine DeMarco grew up under vastly different circumstances. Haven, a second-generation slave, was isolated in the middle of the desert, her days full of hard work and terrifying abuse. Carmine, born into a wealthy Mafia family, lived a life of privilege and excess.

Now, a twist of fate causes their worlds to collide. Entangled in a web of secrets and lies, they learn that while different on the surface, they have more in common than anyone would think.

In a world full of chaos, where money and power rule, Haven and Carmine yearn to break free, but a string of events that began before either of them were born threatens to destroy them instead. Murder and betrayal are a way of life, and nothing comes without a price—especially not freedom. But how much will they have to sacrifice? Can they escape their pasts? And, most of all, what does it mean to be free?

This is such an emotional and riveting story. The characters are wonderful and the storyline ever changing and gripping. This story pulls on your emotions as you realise that there really are good people who do horrible things.

I am captured by Carmine and Haven, and all the other characters in this story. I even love Vincent, Carmine's dad, who seems so cold, remote, and harsh.

I am off to read the next instalment, I hope my heart can take it.

This book was incredible. The character development and story line were masterful and there were moments that were truly thought provoking. Overall a 4.9 for me because I would not re- read this book as it touched on dark issues that no doubt are really happening and I prefer escapism in my books.

I have no words. Well, I do because Amazon requires me to write some for an acceptable review.
This, hands down, is the best mafia/romance/suspense story that I have ever read. And I have read a lot of them! Haven, Carmine, Vincent and all the other characters were written with such deep emotion and you may not like what they do or have done but you respect and honor their decisions.
First off, mafia. It wasn't cheesy or cliche like other stories I read. It was raw and real. I could believe this exists today because of the vulnerabilities written about it.
Next, romance. Carmine and Haven are moonstruck. Their love unfolding was so refreshing because it wasn't overly filled with lust. It was real, deep emotions. Their courtship was so innocent and healing for both characters. The learned things about each other and discovered who they really are.
Last, suspense. I'm not going to give you any spoilers but it's good and gripping. Surprises and twists happen. I guess one word can explain it best: sacrifice.
On a personal note, I grew up in Chicago. My mother is Italian and my father Irish (opposite from Carmine). My mom dealt with the name calling from my father's family, so that prejudice is real! A lot of the landmarks mention in the book, Mount Carmel Cemetery, Dirksen Federal building, Metropolitan Correctional Center does look like an "old punch card" (I used to walk next to it everyday on my way to class) were dead on and I'm so glad for that. But, I don't think my family has a mafia connection. Sadly.

5.0 out of 5 stars AMAZING! 1 July 2016

Sempre by J.M. Darhower is how my mob romance infatuation began!! To me it will always be the GOAT as far as mob romances go, and it will be quite hard for any book to dethrone this gem. Love, violence, dysfunctional crime family, and tons of secrets/plot twists = the way to my heart! I'm bouncing with excitement just writing this! It is definitely one you need to read if you haven't already!According to Kindle I read this book on January 19, 2014, and the fact that I'm still raving about it more than 2 years later says quite a lot about how amazing this book is. Sempre is book #1 in a two book series, so if you fall in love with Haven and Carmine you can continue their story in Sempre: Redemption. Haven and Carmine have one of the most beautiful and innocent romances that I've ever read and is one that you can't help but fall in love with yourself. They have the whole Romeo and Juliet star-crossed lovers vibe but with their mob ties the threat of violence is very real and does happen. It is not a very hot and steamy book, and it focuses more on character and story development which I loved! One piece of advice when reading this book is to keep your eyes peeled because their is a lot of backstory involved and it can get a little tricky keeping all the little details in order. Just writing the post is giving me the mob romance itch! Now I'm off to scour the Kindle store to find a new one!

I don't even know how to start my review... at the beginning I guess I cried /sobbed 5 times before I had even hit page 100.. I honestly didn't think I was going to get through this book. There's soooo many range of emotions when you are reading this it's just hard to wrap my mind around how some supposed human beings can do that to a child. It's sickening and so very heart wrenching.
Sempre is one of the best books I've read in my many many years of reading as hard as it was at times to read I would put this book in my top 3 all time faves. The flow of the writing is perfect. There's never too much of anything or too less of this or that either.
So many times I just wanted to hold Haven poor girl broke my heart but damn she's a fighter smart beautiful so very open to love after everything she'd been through.
Awww Carmine what a beautifully written character. Handsome smart mouth smart ass loving caring smart and total hit by the thunderbolt for Haven our much needed to be loved heroine.
The mafia aspect of the book was wonderfully scary. Again just enough of this and that. The action and twists and turns are mind blowing at times there's one thing that came out I seriously did not see coming.
I laughed soooo much too there's a part I won't spoil it but Haven and Dom are playing a game and Carmines jealousy comes through in a very colourful Carmine way. I laughed so hard I had tears. The sibling relationship is awesome. Their friends are great and Vincent finally starts to forgive.
Anyway do yourself a huge favor buy this book but if your an emotional person like myself have Kleenex close you'll need it for the tears and laughter.
Congratulations JM Darhower and Thank You, you have written a beautifully brilliant emotional book. I would LOVE more Carmine Haven and the rest of the family but if this is all I'm more than pleased.

I think I read these books out of order, but I am glad that I did. I read Made 1st, which is Corrado's story and I believe it was meant to be read after Sempre and Sempre: Redemption. Regardless of the order though, I enjoyed all 4 books ( I read the Friends and Forever Novella last). What a great series! All in all they leave me wanting more about this family even though everything is tied up and doesn't "need" more, it still leaves me wanting more, because I enjoyed them so much! JM Darhower is an awesome author and I will read anything she writes. I have read other books she has written before this series, and I have new series on my kindle now waiting for me (Forbidden #1 and #2 are up next). I would recommend this series to anyone who loves a great Mafia read. You keep writing Ms. Darhower and I will keep reading! You have a fan for life!

4.0 out of 5 stars Complex and well-written 10 July 2016

First, let me say I love the cover of this book! This is a gut-wrenching tale and I really enjoyed reading it. I favor mafia romance and I do not mind violence but this book gives a slightly different probably more realistic view of the mafia. This is only my second Darhower novel and both books had complex and multi-layered plots.

I ended up deciding to give this 4 stars rather than 5 because the middle of the book slowed down a bit and I found myself getting a little bored with the back and forth in Haven and Carmine's relationship. They never had a major fight or break-up but one would pull away for awhile and then other would. Of course, they are only teenagers so maybe that is realistic but I was ready to move on.

All in all though, a great read and although the price is on the high side this is a long book so probably still a good entertainment value.
