Product Description

Upon returning to her hometown for her grandmother’s funeral, Sage Matthews is terrorized by a series of strange events that unfold in her childhood home. Sage dismisses each eerie occurrence as a by-product of her overwrought emotional state, until it becomes chillingly clear that something not of this world is desperate to get a message—or is it a warning?—through to her…

Detective Sergeant Ethan Blade comes to Cryton, South Australia, to catch a serial killer; three unsolved murders are tarnishing his stellar career. When Ethan meets Sage—the latest victim’s beautiful granddaughter—his attraction to her is explosive and inconvenient. He knows she’s not crazy, but Sage’s theory about the threat looming in town is unbelievable.

With the handsome detective rejecting her ideas, Sage embarks on the supernatural journey that her grandmother started. What she discovers shatters everything Sage ever knew about herself—and who she really is.

Ethan’s routine case quickly turns personal when he discovers Sage is the killer’s next target. For her, he’ll break all the rules and cross every line. But how can he protect Sage from an evil he cannot even conceive of?

'To save her, he must let go of everything he ever believed'. And this is exactly what Detective Ethan struggles with throughout this spooky book. Constantly caught between dismissing what is happening to Sage and needing to believe her to be able to protect her, Athena does a great job of summing up Ethan's internal struggle. From the first couple of chapters, I was attached to the lead character Sage. The descriptive narration brought me into the characters lives early and from then on I was hooked. The close relationship Sage has with her grandmother is a strong theme throughout the book and it gives a good depth to being able to understand the emotional ride Sage experiences. This book is not for the faint hearted. It had me seeing dark figures out the corner of my eye more than once. If you want a book that sends you deep into the characters early on and takes you on a suspenseful, eerie ride, I recommend this book.

HASH(0xb1304948) out of 5 stars Great creepy new series 10 November 2015
By J. L. Johnston - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
If you like creepy crawly and goosebumps this this book is for you. Athena Daniels does a great job of keeping the w creeped out. Sage has returned to her hometown after her grandmother's grisly murder. Once she's home she is quickly terrorized by a series of strange events. Something or someone is trying to give her a message from beyond the grave. Detective Sergeant Ethan Blade comes to Cryton to catch a serial killer. He's part of a secret investigative force. He's very analytical in his way of thinking. He doesn't believe in anything beyond the grave. Ethan is very attracted to Sage but he's determined to keep it professional between them. Eventually he sees that something horrible is going on with Sage but he refuses to believe it's beyond the grave. Many times I wanted to throat punch Ethan because he kept running from his feelings and refused to believe the scary creepy things that were happening to Sage. Can Ethan open his heart and mind to possibilities beyond his norm? Or will he stay in denial and not be able to help Sage? Once he realizes that the killer has Sage in his sights will Ethan break the rules and open his mind? This book will keep you up at night because it may cause nightmares. Athena Daniels did a great job weaving this scary paranormal story together. Looking forward to seeing what's next in the creepy series

HASH(0xb19e2d68) out of 5 stars Way too Sloooow. Nothing happens...After 8 chapters I gave up. 3 January 2016
By Twinkletoes - Published on Amazon.com

I just couldn't get into this book. I tried, but I don't like it. Its a shame really because it definitely has potential. I was initially interested in the two main characters...but I had three main complaints.

1. The pacing is way TOO slow for my taste. Its like molasses-in-January slow. Around chapter 8 I just gave up. Nothing's even happened yet!

2. Too much grieving for grandma. I understand that the murder was sudden and obviously upsetting, but OMG her mental whining about it got to be a little grating after a while. Every other word is another lament about how her life was snuffed out before her time...and a bunch of regrets about why I didn't do this...how come I hadn't done that....Good Grief, the woman was in her 70s or 80s, its not like her life was snuffed out at 20. It seems to me that Sage should have been more angry, and focused on catching the killer Instead she's sitting around shoveling junk into boxes and whining about how unfair it all it.

3. The weird inconsistency about her and her grandmother's status/popularity Crayton is a small town, this is made obvious. Through Sage’s thoughts and memories its established that Nan was pretty much an outcast, with just a tiny circle of friends. Likewise, its been like this for years...since we learn through Sage’s thoughts that she was teased mercilessly by all her classmates at school and had no friends. In fact, she makes the point that the whole town kinda made fun and shunned them. So, why then does she tell the detective that her Nan was loved by everyone? And who were the multitude of people at the funeral…if they were shunned? Sage even says that no one’s been to visit the shop since She's been there, no ones' checked on her or express sympathy or anything. No one sent flowers or cards. Not to mention that Sage herself is still being ridiculed (as evidenced by the three women who walk by the shop and poke fun at Sage being a witch. It’s a small town so…they can’t be both shunned and loved at the same time. I found this confusing.

HASH(0xb10f48ac) out of 5 stars Scary 22 November 2015
By Doreen - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
I received a copy of this novel in exchange for an honest review and I can honestly say that if I could give it ten stars I would! This novel actually scared me when I was reading alone in my living room at night and there were people in the next room! I do not scare easily but the writer was so descriptive when writing about the happenings at night that it felt as if you were there. I think we are going to be seeing a lot more of her novels as more people start reading them and wanting more. Excellent job!

Ever read a book and it was lacking? The Seer's Daughter has it all. The right amount of romance, suspense, mystery paranormal phenomenon etc. I do not want to ruin it for anyone by giving some of the story. I highly recommend this book. You will not regret it and it will most definitely be hard to put down. I cannot wait to read more from this author!!! I was given a complimentary copy of this book so I can give my honest opinion.

HASH(0xb114c3c0) out of 5 stars Creepy Indeed 10 January 2016
By Missy Richmond - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
The paranormal twist on this romance novel was really very cleverly done. I've read the reviews stating it's so scary, but I'm an avid horror fan. I didn't find it scary, but it was super creepy indeed. I'd characterize this as almost a slow burn leading up to the main romance; however, the creepy paranormal aspects come into play almost immediately. I was never bored. There were also no editing/grammar mistakes that I saw. That's rare in and of itself: a pleasant change from what's sadly become the norm in ebooks.

As for the characters, I'll just touch on the main 2. The book ends with Sage where I would have liked her to have begun: strong and confident. It just drives me a little nuts to see a female lead that's a bit weak, especially when she's always been surrounded by such strong women in her life. Ethan seriously drove me insane. He's a detective of the highest caliber. He's extremely accomplished, yet he reacts irrationally every time he sees Sage, even from the first time they meet. I like a bit of that over protective jealousy in my romances, but not to the point he took it. Still, despite those very few flaws, of just my own opinion, both were quick to capture your attention and worked themselves into your heart before you even realized it.

I was disappointed at the ending, though. I realize this book is to be a part of a series, so I expected there to be threads left dangling. I seriously double checked my kindle to make sure I wasn't missing a page or more when I came to the end. It stopped so abruptly. There were several things resolved and brought to a conclusion, so it's not as aggravating as a cliffhanger. It's just....you will want more. I really can't explain it. It's not just 'I can't wait for book 2'! I feel a little cheated out of some more information. Would it stop me from reading this book in hindsight: absolutely not! Will it stop me from reading the series further: absolutely not. It's just a little bit of a yearning left unresolved.

I gave this book 5 stars because it really is well done. I'm amazed at the good editing. I found myself in love with the characters very quickly. I really like where the story took me and where it is heading. I'm anxious for book 2. I was provided a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
