IS HALF OF YOUR STORY IN TROUBLE?

Most screenplays are about a 50/50 split between dialogue and description - which means your description is just as important as your dialogue. It just gets less press because the audience never sees it, the same reason why screenwriters get less press than movie stars. But your story will never get to the audience until readers and development executives read your script... so it is a very important factor. Until the movie is made the screenplay is the movie and must be just as exciting as the movie. So how do you make your screenplay exciting to read? Description is important in a novel as well, and the “audience” does read it... how do we write riveting description?

This Blue Book will dive into techniques to improve your description, with sections on Just Good Writing, How Much Detail Is Too Much, How & What You Should Write, and a section on Your Writer’s Voice.

SUBJECTS INCLUDE: What Is Good Description? 25 Professional Techniques To Improve Description, Hidden Camera Directions, Contrast, Why You Need To Be Vaguely Specific, Using “Gags”, Hitchcock’s Chocolates, Unusual Storytelling Devices, The “Unfilmable” Controversy, Too Many Or Too Few Details? Using Name Brands, “Bound” And Creating Vivid Imagery, Stunts (Like First Person Screenplays), The New Normal, What Is Voice? Developing Your Unique Voice, Voice & Tarantino’s “Inglorious Bastards”, and much more!

Take command of your description and your unique writer’s voice!

Voice described well. Nooks & Crannies of Description and Description in Screenwriting. There are many tools of storytelling and screenwriting and Martell's books go through them one by one.

I have eight books in the Bluebook series. All of them worth the price and this book is top three. Although he can be a bit long winded at times, it works out for the best. His comparisons of the information he is conveying to actual screenplays and movies is some of the best, and it sinks in without you realizing it. Although I'm a firm believer in NOT learning from a single source, the knowledge you gain from Mr. Martell is much greater than any other, and at a fraction of the cost.

5.0 out of 5 stars IF YOU WRITE you must add this to your educational arsenal 10 July 2017

Any writer who doesn't read this regardless of medium (spec script or novel) this will help you be your own best friend; why? Because you will learn to WORDSMITH. You will learn to EDIT. You will learn to discern what stays in and what must go. Like Lary Crews (Ten Secrets of Novel Writing) IF big if you cut 'ing' words and 'ly' words you up the pace. This can make or break your narrative. Serve the story not ego. Great addition too, when I teach my writing classes.
