This is by no means the most thorough, complete or comprehensive book on using your mind and emotions to attract what you want in life, and it wasn't the first book about this topic that I'd personally come across either. Having said that, this work (both the book and the original film) has been a wonderful catalyst for introducing a large number of people to the concept of being able to actively draw your desires towards you by using the power of your mental faculties. I saw the film and then read the book for the first time years ago, when I was just emerging into adulthood. I'd previously come across a few works that spoke along similar lines, but the enthusiasm, simplicity and immediacy of this book's message really cemented the idea in my head that I could truly start trying to direct the content and direction of my life from within.
It resulted in my first real life experiment in manifesting something for myself- an experiment which proved to be an immediate success. While walking through a large department store looking for a birthday gift for my best friend (we always spent $50 on each other), I realised I was broke- I had another week before pay day, and I desperately needed to buy more petrol for my car so I could keep going to uni that week, and I had less than $100 in the bank. Buying my friend's gift was basically more than I could afford that week. I thought to myself, "If only I had an extra $50 to tide me over for the week- that's all I'd need to get through till pay day." I decided to attract the money. I just sort of mentally projected the request for $50, then immediately stopped thinking about it, acted as though it was done. Three minutes later I literally stepped on a $50 note in an abandoned section of the car park, nowhere near any cars or people who may have dropped it. That day, thanks to this book, I really realised I had a concrete ability to positively effect my own life.
