The Maheshwaris are back, a little secretly this time!

What do you do if you find a man who looks like chocolate, speaks like warm syrup, looks at you like you were the most precious cake ever created, and he can bake too? You marry him, even if in secret.

Ruma Malhotra falls head over heels and a little more in love with Lakshman Maheshwari, but her parents insist that she marry a rich businessman of their choice. When Ruma's only option is to marry Lakshman in secret, she is left torn between her love for her parents and her passion for Lakshman. Lakshman Maheshwari falls in love with Ruma Malhotra the first time he sets his eyes on her in Ranveer's office. Will he agree to marry Ruma in secret even if it means betraying his parents?

Psst... Those who have read THE MALHOTRA BRIDE might be happy to reconnect with Sunita & Akshay Malhotra in this one.

*MARRIAGES MADE IN INDIA is a five-novella series that revolves around the characters you have met in The Runaway Bridegroom.

Laxman made me wait for long and didn't disappoint me even for one moment in this book. Look out for the sizzling passion, just too hot to handle. Romance lovers treat awaits you.
This guy with ‘luxurious mustache’ and dark fuzz covered hair, rakish looking will just stride and take your breath away. The sizzling passion and static that’s created when Laxman and Ruma are around is just amazing. Still feel sad that the book has ended wanted more doses of their romance.

4.0 out of 5 stars A quick read and hot romance 1 March 2017

Actually, I was waiting to read Sundari Venkatraman's books. I knew about the popularity of her books but didn't get a chance to read any. This hot romance didn't disappoint me at all.

It's the story of a young couple Ruma, an independent rich woman who wants to stand on her own feet and Lakshman, a baker who earns a good name for his business. It is a love at first sight for both followed by deep passion. But, Ruma's parents want her to marry a business man's son and they also hurry to arrange her engagement. Though Lakshman has a supporting sister and brother in law, there is a lot to be done to convince Ruma's parents first. How will they both convince their parents? Why they have to marry secretly? You get the answers after reading the book.

The sizzling chemistry and hot romance of the leading couple are obviously the plus points. I loved the characters of Lakshman's sister and brother in law though their character length is short. Ruma's grand mother is adorable with her presence of mind and the way she handles the situation with expertise.

One thing that I didn't like about this book is it seemed too rosy and positive to be true. Convincing parents for a love marriage is not easy. I was not sure why Lakshman's parents weren't hurt when they knew about their son's secret marriage. Being an open minded family as mentioned in the book, they would have felt bad as Lakshman has to hide an importance news of his life from them. It is also surprising how Ruma's parents can take a decision about their daughter's marriage by just Akshay's recommendation and one meeting with their to-be-son-in-law.

I didn't read the earlier parts of 'marriages made in India' series, else would have learned more about Akshay. Overall, the book is a quick romantic read. The writing style is great without unnecessary prose and very easy to follow. I would recommend this to readers who love hot romance.

PS: I have received this book from the author and this is my honest opinion on the book.

My Rating: 4/5
4.0 out of 5 stars Entertaining, Steamy, Sweet! 1 March 2017

The story is the third in a series about the love stories of the Maheshwari clan, but the spotlight is stolen by the feisty Ruma, the love interest of Lakshman Maheshwari. In a short novella such as this one, there isn’t a lot an author can do in terms of character development. And yet, the book succeeds in serving its purpose: it is, at its heart, a light hearted, steamy romantic novella. The book breaks norm from the ‘traditional romance’ sequence of boy meets girl, they fall in love, they cannot be together, then they can. In this book, while the boy and girl fall in love, they do marry and find love (and lust!). The sweet thing is that the very forward and break-the-mold Ruma turns shy after marriage. Lakshaman is hot, sweet and charming, making for a very interesting dynamic between the protagonists. I enjoyed reading about Lakshman's bakery business, as well as the scenes in Delhi.
The unwitting villain is the girl’s mother, who wants Ruma to marry a rich guy. I’d have liked to see Ruma try to reason with the mother and tell her she loves a richer guy, only to find out her mother will not budge. Of course, we know that society puts a huge pressure on girls and a girl may decide she has no option but to hide her true feelings from her parents. The book succeeds in showcasing that social norm. I loved the character of Ruma’s gramdma and her uncle (who, I believe, has a book of his own).
Most sisters I know (including me and my sister) are very close. And a sister would be the first to know of a secret marriage. Ruma and her sister Saloni do not appear to share that bond, but perhaps it was mentioned in another book of the series?
If you’re looking for a serious read about social issues and intellectual contemplation, this isn’t your book. But if you’re looking for a light, easy, entertaining (and steamy) read, definitely pick this one up. You won't regret it. Sundari Venkatraman is a prolific author who can definitely draw you into the hearts of her characters.

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved it 21 May 2017

Ruma lifted the phone to call Ranveer’s extension. As the phone rang, she checked the taller of the two men."

And with that Ruma meets Lakshman. Just the right kind of tingling feeling that makes the reader turn every page of the book. Sundari Venkatraman has this tendency to make the reader fall in love with her heroes. At least the female readers. This time it's the baker who is not only handsome but also has a heart of a gold. A few cynics might point out that such specimen don't exist. Maybe in the real world, they don't. But they do in the world created by Ms. Vekatraman, where every romance reader can escape and forget realism.

The Love Story

Is passionate. Where the demand is not only from the man but from the woman also. Ruma knows her mind and she is anything but shy.

However much critics scream the word 'cliche' when such a beautiful moment is born, fans of die hard romance will always feel a tear of joy trailing down their cheeks when such a moment occurs. When Ruma meets Lakshman at Ranveer's office, little did they know that their chance meeting would turn into a beautiful romance?

But the title Her Secret Husband intrigued me when I first saw it. From the time I have been reading romance, titles like His secret wife, reluctant wife, runaway bride had always been there, but with role reversal, this turns out to be a pleasant change.

Lakshman woke up with a jerk from his dream. It was a recurring one about Ruma Malhotra.

Is this how a guy feels?

I have often wondered about the initial thoughts of my hubby was when he met me. The very first thought which makes a man decide that he wants to meet a woman again. Did he too spend a few sleepless nights or did a silly grin made him feel foolish in front of his friends? Sundari Venkatraman has brought this out beautifully.

Her second-born spoke little, but she was attuned to his body language.

The Family Saga.

I often call her Sooraj Barjatiya of the Indie world. Ms. Venkatraman does not create novels. She brings to live her characters. Long after you close her books, the characters stay on with you. And when one character makes a special appearance in her other novels, you feel like you have won the prize of a treasure hunt.

Hotter and Bolder
Sundari has really heated the scenes between Ruma and Lakshman. I like the way Ruma is not a damsel in distress. She can initiate a proposal, make love to her man and if need be learn every aspect of his business and walk along with him. Even though Sundari's heroines don't carry the torch of feminism burning brightly, they create a space based on equality, passion.

The feeling of homecoming
With every book of Sundari, I feel I am watching a daily soap. Characters from her previous books make an appearance and I feel excited every time that happens. From what I have read of Sundari, she does not do hate, she only spreads the love.
