Who could resist a novel overflowing with secret organizations, corrupt government officials, and religious conspiracies? In his action-packed thriller, The Secret of Heaven, Felix Alexander explores the repercussions of a lost bible and how lives are impacted because of the choices of one murdered man.
With his dying breath, Lazzaro de Medici whispered, "Expose the secret of heaven" to his one trusted friend: Aiden Leonardo. So with an encrypted letter and an obligation to his older mentor, Aiden evaded the FBI, Chicago PD, and a secret organization to uncover the truth behind his friend's murder. As time begins to run out, Aiden discovers that more than just his life is at stake. The lost bible could uproot the views of every religious group in the world.
Although the plot was well-developed, the book needed to be edited. In the first chapter alone there were missing words, added words, and wrong words, which made it very difficult to read and understand. I cringed every time the word "wheelchair" came up because it was two words (wheel chair) in the book. The abundance of grammatical errors wasn't the only thing that forced me to reread pages. There were times that I was so confused I had to take a break from reading to clear my mind. I had no idea who was talking (or thinking) because in the middle of the page the viewpoint would be changed to a new character. It sometimes made it very difficult to follow their train of thought.
With these flaws being brought to light, I believe that the book has a lot of potential. It was fast-paced and non-stop action. At every turn, the characters were uncovering new clues or delving deeper into conspiracy. Right when I thought I knew what was going to happen, a character would do the unexpected or flip sides. I enjoyed the controlled chaos that the author described during action scenes and the constant battle between good and evil. It kept the reader guessing on whom to trust, which always makes a story more exciting and unpredictable.
There were many things that I enjoyed about this book including the creative storyline and character development. Even though there were a lot of characters to remember, I felt that the author did a wonderful job developing their personalities and backgrounds. My favorite character was a computer whiz that added comic relief during more intense scenes.
With all of this being said, I would rate this novel a 3 out of 4 stars. It was captivating and intriguing. It kept me on my toes trying to anticipate what was going to happen next; even though, I sometimes got lost because of the viewpoint changes. In a way, it reminded me of The Da Vinci Code novel because of all the religious references and mysteriously encrypted letter. Anyone who loves mysteries and enjoys the action of a good thriller would enjoy reading this novel. --Online Book Club
When I read this book it took me days to come out of it. Angels and Demons is child s play compared to this work. This is one of those books that should go straight to the big screen! It has inspired more conversations in my household than any other book I've ever read, and trust me there are very few I haven t read. While Mr. Alexander has 2 books on Amazon, they deal with very different material. If I were an agent and received the synopsis of this book, I would be on a plane quickly. --Pirate Patty in Blogs and Books
Conspiracy theories, scandal and a search for the truth; The Secret of Heaven is the fast-paced, action-packed mystery by rising author, Felix Alexander. The set up is simple; Aiden wakes up in a hospital with no memory and finds himself at the centre of a mystery surrounding disgraced investment banker, Lazzaro de Medici. Amidst the mystery is the message that lingers in Aiden s mind expose the secret of heaven , the search for the lost bible and a mysterious figure called Helel . Despite the odd confusion regarding the names Lazzaro and his son Lorenzo, I enjoyed this book as much for its fast-paced action as the mystery that unravels with each chapter. I am no expert when it comes to religion, but it is clear that Alexander knows his stuff, and his passion shines through his writing. The technology Alexander s characters use within a story surrounded by ancient history and religious scriptures provides a contemporary make-over to the mysteries and intrigue surrounding religion. Alexander plays the part of the omniscient narrator; the story jumps from the perspective of different characters, both good and bad and one of my favourite characters has to be the corrupt magistrate. He is just pure evil and I found the tension that his character brought to the story utterly enthralling; knowing his intentions for the more innocent characters left me on the edge of my seat. Known for his poetic prose and debut novel, The Romantic, Alexander s poetic way of writing is inspiring and at times, beautifully executed. This is certainly a novel that captures the imagination and at times, I felt like I was living in a part of a film. Alexander s inspiration came from an article he read about a 1,500-year-old bible that was found in Turkey after government officials had confiscated from a black market smuggling ring- fascinating! This novel is currently a Kindle exclusive so keep an eye out as The Secret Heaven is sure to build an avid following! --Amy Burchill in Book Snail Reviews
Hidden within the text is an ancient truth about the most controversial message Jesus left to His disciples. But as Aiden embarks on his quest to unravel the mystery of redemption and faith, a secret organization known only as The Group hunts him down to destroy the Lost Bible and tie up loose ends.
With the help of his fiancé Dr. Miriam Levin—a cultural anthropologist and a professor of historical archaeology in her own right, their friend Nagi, a philologist, religious historian and an eccentric cryptographer, Aiden soon realizes the Lost Bible was written by the only disciple who walked with Jesus and had his gospel omitted from Scripture.
Things are further complicated when a mysterious stranger warns Aiden that possessing the secret of heaven could cost him his life. Pursued by the F.B.I. for the ancient Black market relic and the Chicago PD in connection to the murder of Lazzaro de Medici, Aiden races against the clock to prove his innocence and fulfill his mentor’s dying wish.
