Laura and Phil were together once. Young and naive, their romance couldn’t survive the high expectations they placed upon it. Separating, they move on with their lives. United again through Laura’s conservation project on an island resort, they discover their passion for one another is just as strong. This time, however, they have to mature enough to handle their differences. This sweet short story shows that some relationships definitely deserve a second chance. Unlike the characters' earlier expectations of each other, this story was mature, thoughtful and sweet. Definitley worth a read. :)

Laura is passionate about sea life and preserving it the best she and the environment can so when the funding on her marine biologist project gets cut, she is at a loss as to what to do to help the animals she was so close to helping and where she goes from here.
When the opportunity to work on Topaz Island close to the Great Barrier Reef she jumps at the chance, under the understanding that this job is just a small stepping stone before she find out how to get her project reinstated or funding from somewhere that is also passionate about sea life and the animals it houses.
Laura is enjoying her new job and being close to the Great Barrier Reef, although she don't expect her ex-boyfriend to show up at Topaz Island or to want her back in his life, that is a surprise that she can't imagine especially with her life uncertain, she doesn't know what the future holds.
Phil was Laura's everything once upon a time, that was until she hurt him and left without a word. Phil had forgiven Laura a long time ago but it is only now that he has come for her, he wants her back not just in his life but as the woman he wants to spend the rest of his life with but he has to convince her first.
As they spend more and more time together, they drift back into their old ways but Laura doesn't want to give up her independent life to fall back into one that she lived before, but to do that she needs help to convince others her passion and determination for the sea life that live in the ocean.
Second Chance Island is exactly that full of second chances, at love, at life, at hope and most definitely at a future which was once uncertain. It is a wonderfully written story that made me want to visit the island and see the miracle that is the Great Barrier Reef myself as it truly is amazing.

If you’re looking for a short romantic read set in paradise, you can’t go far wrong with this one. Four years ago Laura made a stupid mistake born of naivety, idealism and a little bit of panic and it ruined everything. When her funding for her project to conserve the Great Barrier Reef is cut she escapes to work on a friend’s tropical island. The last person she expects to meet there is the man she hurt so badly four years before.

Life hasn’t worked out quite the way Phil anticipated – but in a good way. Yet no matter how successful he becomes, or where in the world he goes, he still can’t forget Laura. Perhaps it’s finally time to face her again and see if he can lay the last of their ghosts to rest. If it happens to include a stay on the Great Barrier Reef, than all the better.

As I said before this is short. It took me less than an hour to read, but that didn’t stop me from really enjoying this. There’s not a lot of time wasted on blame or recriminations, which was nice, and it’s clear both characters have grown since their previous relationship. Instead things are steamy and fun, with an added touch of conservation issues and a brief fight for independence and understanding.

In all this was a great little escape, perfect for a quick pick me up on a dark winter’s day. I’ll be looking out for more from this author.

Beautifully visual this book takes the reader to the Barrier Reef for some snorkeling, boating, romance and yes, a second chance. The author described the fish, the coral even the sounds so wonderfully I could almost feel the sand between my toes. The story was short and sweet. It's about the foolish actions of youth and facing mistakes head on. Romantic, sexy and fun this is the perfect quick read to leave you dreaming of a warm beach and a hot man.

This is a great story set in such a beautiful place The Great Barrier reef and this adds to the sensuality of the story when a deep and strong love is rekindled between our hero and heroine Laura and Phil they had been lovers in university but when Laura did something that she has never forgiven herself for they break up and years later neither have gotten over each other and Phil decides it is time to find Laura. I loved this one and highly recommend it :)

Something to Note: I received this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

My Thoughts: I'm just focusing on the book at whole instead of going into depths of the characters because it was just such a short book. I know 3 stars seems to be average, but I want you guys to know that I did really enjoy this book. The reason I rated it 3 stars was because it was so short and I kind of wanted more out of it.

The characters in this book are all magnificent. Yes, you only have a few pages to get to know them, but I connected with them right off the bat. Phil is the character that I fell for the most. He was just so fun to read about and I enjoyed his character the most. Laura was a great character as well, but I just didn't feel for her as much as I wished I would have. The other side characters are also just so wonderful. Laura's boss honestly made me love this book so much. She made me smile because she was genuine and it's hard to find someone so lovely in books now-a-days.

Overall, this book was a great, fast read. If you are in a reading slump and need a little pick me up...I would highly recommend this book. It's quick and makes you smile throughout the whole thing.
