Product Description

At forty years old, the Mustangs batting coach, Jake Tulleson, has spent a lifetime running from commitment. When he falls in love with a woman barely older than his daughter, he uses every excuse to justify leaving her when the season is over. It isn’t long before he realizes his mistake and heads back to Dallas to claim what’s his, but it’s going to take a Christmas miracle to convince her to give him a second chance.
Siobhan Flannery is well aware of Jake’s reputation for loving ‘em and leaving, but she believes her love is enough to make him stick around, despite their fifteen year age difference. Before the stadium lights dim following the teams final playoff game, Jake ends their affair and disappears to his off-season hidey-hole. When he returns weeks later, full of remorse and begging for another chance, she just wants him to go away and leave her be. It’ll be a cold day in Dallas before she forgives him.

4.0 out of 5 stars Tasty Tale for Any Time of the Year 22 April 2014

Really fun, spicy little read. Siobhan (which name I always struggle with in my head, over the pronunciation) is a fairly mature 25, left broken-hearted after seasoned veteran batting coach Jake has loved her and left her at season's end.

What I liked: Siobhan's no pushover, and despite Jake having (presumably) much more sexual experience than he does, she still manages to take him by surprise. Loved the angle with the grown daughter playing matchmaker, and the fancy costumes at the ball. What I didn't like: The Magic Vagina. Too many references to how he felt something special for her at the moment he was inside her. [SPOILER ALERT] I also am not a fan of the we-used-protection-but-we're-still-accidentally-pregnant trope, but could swallow it better, EXCEPT for the emphasis on how Siobhan never for a moment considered anything but having the baby. This is a pet peeve of mine; regardless of whether you are pro-choice or not, regardless of whether you live in an era where abortion is legal or not, EVERY woman who's faced with an unplanned pregnancy considers abortion. She might consider it briefly, and immediately rule it out, and I am fine with that, but if I am told by the author it never crossed her mind, then I feel like either the character is an idiot, OR the author is pandering to the pro-life crowd. (See, this character might love sex but she's still a "good girl.") In any event, it draws more attention to the idea than simply letting the reader assume the character did her deliberating in private; it's like the author telling me "she never considered becoming a trapeze artist," I am taken out of the story. [END SPOILER]

I also found some of the transitions between present day and the past jarring. There was a really nice one where it was *present day* Thanksgiving and Siobhan is seated on a barstool, then a flashback chapter to *two months earlier* when she's seated on the same barstool. But then the next chapter also starts with a *present day* tag and I expect it's still Thanksgiving and she's still on the barstool, but it's now December and she's at the ball in costume. Took me a few headshakes to figure out when/where we were.

I really liked the way Jake had come to realize his feelings and continue to pursue a reconciliation with Siobhan without crossing the line into creepy stalker, and I adored the Christmas tree he chose because it needed somebody to love it. Great HEA, smokin' hot sex scenes, overall I did like it very much.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent addition to the Mustangs series. 27 January 2014

This is a terrific story about a man scared to commit, the woman he hurt terribly, and the way he woos her back to his side. But Siobhan isn't ready to let Jake back into her life - not after he took her love and tossed it away as if it had no meaning. As if the end of baseball season naturally meant the end of their relationship. The story goes back and forth between present day and the past, at the very beginning of Siobhan and Jake's relationship, but trust me it's all worth it.

This isn't my favorite Mustangs story, but I still liked it a whole bunch.

4.0 out of 5 stars Liked Alot 4 December 2014

I love all of Roz Lee's Baseballs books. This book was a little harder to follow and that is why I gave it a 4.
I love how the Siobhan made Jake work to get her back. Too often the characters run right back in to the others arms and
it was good to see that in this book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Another good installment of Mustangs series 4 May 2014

Hitting coach Jake Tulleson is a player, both on and off the field. He falls for Sean Flannery's little sister Siobhan, a romance writer, but freaks out because he doesn't do commitments. I love his relationship with his daughter & how he enlists her help to win Siobhan back.
