From the Inside Flap
id...Thom tells the story with humor and eloquence, and a thumping good tale it is, too."<br>THE WASHINGTON POST<br>In one generation, the Clark family of Virginia fought for our nation's independence, and explored, conquered, and settled the continent from sea to shining sea. This powerfully written book recreates the warm life of the family, the dangers of the battlefield, the grueling journeys across an untamed wilderness, and the soul-stirring Lewis and Clark Expedition. This mighty epic is a fitting tribute to the wisdom and courage of Ann Rogers Clark, her husband John, and the ten sons and daughters they nurtured and inspired.<br><br><br><i>From the Paperback edition.</i> --This text refers to an alternate kindle_edition edition.

Well written but a bit slow.
Wonderful journeyReviewed in the United Kingdom on 30 January 2014
A wonderful insight to the epic journey across America and the return - what endurance and facinating details. I have read it many times and each time marvel at the expidition.
An excellent book, couldn't put it downReviewed in the United Kingdom on 11 July 2014
An excellent book, couldn't put it down . Excellent detail and description and particularly interesting because I have just returned from exploring some of that landscape.
WHAT A BOOKReviewed in Canada on 11 March 2019
Immensely enjoying this book! Taking a while to finish even tho sometimes don't want to put it down. It's so descriptive I slow down reading to digest every word. Also I try to visualize many scenes. I also check history to see if what I'm reading is accurate (it has been). Had never read this author before but will again. Have already bought another (Illinois) cause that's where I'm from. From an American history buff, I'm loving this book! Can't wait to finish but don't want it to end!
