Product Description

After crash-landing on the lost colony world of Aashla, Terran Scout David Rice rescued Princess Callan, kidnapped heir to the throne of Mordan. In fighting his way across half the planet to see her home safely, he won her love, and then her hand in marriage. Now David and Callan want nothing more than to settled down and live happily ever after...

But a man can't do what David has done without making powerful enemies, and his enemies want revenge!

Told in the form of a lead-in novella and a novel, SCOUT'S OATH opens with the story of a young thief who risks his life to bring David and Callan a warning that starts them on a desperate race against time to find and rescue her parents. Then, to stop the outbreak of planet-wide war, David must surrender to King Rat, ruler of the tunnels beneath the city-state of Beloren, and it falls to Callan to pull together a band of unlikely heroes and organize his rescue. Can an old pirate, a young thief, a crusty doctor, and a daring airship pilot help Callan do the impossible?

SCOUT'S OATH is an exciting modern homage to the classic tales of planetary romance made famous by writers such as Edgar Rice Burroughs and Leigh Brackett. If you like your heroes unabashedly heroic, your heroines feisty and true, and your plots filled with dangers and twists at every turn, you'll enjoy SCOUT'S OATH.

5.0 out of 5 stars Princess of Mordan 2 June 2017
By Frank C. Bertino - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition Verified Purchase
The feisty, beautiful Princess Callen wife of David her hero and hero of Mordan organizes a mission to rescue him from his enemy. She seeks allies and finds out how David is respected in the hinterland. The title the tribesmen use to honor her instead of Princess is Lady Death when they find out she is married to David the Hand of Death. The characters have wonderful chemistry feeling real in their dialogue. I like the banter and teasing. The story is great with its emphasis on love, loyalty, family and duty. Will David ever get any quiet time alone with Callan? I look forward to the next book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic continuation to Scout's Honor!! 4 March 2015

Many times book sequels are either let downs that show the original work was just a fluke, or a far better story that diminishes the original work. Happily,Scout's Oath is neither... it is a wonderful continuation of a thrilling story-line that not only stands by itself as a fantastic and fast-paced action thriller, but also extends and gives delightful background and "back-story" to Scout's Honor.

The book is divided into two parts, the first -- written from the perspective of David Rice, the hero of Scout's Honor -- is a thrilling lead-in to the second which I feel is where the storytelling takes a wonderful turn. We start to see the events unfold from TWO perspectives: from our hero as well as from his "Princess Bride" (sorry, couldn't resist), with just the right amount of "flashback" that adds wonderful depth to the characters. (I particularly liked the background with David and Mr. Hart, the old Scout... you see why David is the way he is.)

If you've read Scout's Honor, you will gain an even better appreciation for it after reading Scout's Oath. If you HAVEN'T read Scout's Honor, shame on you... go get it and Scout's Oath, but be sure to read Scout's Honor first!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Swashbuckling fun for the whole family! 25 February 2015

Swashbuckling fun! Scout's Oath picks up where Scout's Honor left off, with more adventures of David Rice, Princess Callan and a motley crew of allies, enemies, and other characters. This one brings new high-tech challenges to bear on Princess Callan's low-tech world, but as always, the stalwart David, Princess Callan and their friends and supporters bravely jump into the fray to defend it. Full of honor, bravery, love, and a great sense of humor, this is an excellent follow-on to Scout's Honor. This is a great read for the whole family -- with characters you care about and that you can identify with. Read Scout's Honor first, then this one. I'm looking forward to the next one!

5.0 out of 5 stars Swords and Airships! 24 March 2015

An excellent read!

I enjoyed Scout's Honor so I had to pick up a copy of this as soon as I saw it. If anything, it's better than the first book. You get a deeper look into the background of the characters, plus plenty of action and suspense, including plenty of plot twists I never saw coming. If you're tired of preachy and smutty sci-fi crap, you'll enjoy this classic adventure.

Look, two words: swords and airships. Buy it!
4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Burroughs type of planetary romance 1 March 2016

Excellent Burroughs type of planetary romance. Once Vogel has a chance to develop his world more thoroughly and build a larger cast of characters I expect to see some 5 star novels in this series. I hope it continues for a long time.
