Book Two, Mending Scars, is available now at https://bitly.com/mendingscarsamazon

Kaiya Marlow has always been cautious, precise in every decision she makes. When her dark past threatens to resurface, she decides to take precautions to protect herself by enrolling in self-defense classes at her gym.

Her instructor, Ryker Campbell, is the tattooed womanizer everyone warns about. Kaiya attempts to resist Ryker's advances, but the more time they spend training together, the harder it is for Kaiya to resist him.

Ryker's view on relationships is simple: strictly sex, nothing more. Haunted by demons from his past, he never allows himself to become attached to any woman. No attachment means no weakness, no vulnerability, no pain. He doesn't realize that his whole world is about to be turned upside down when Kaiya enters his self-defense class. Determined to have her, at least for one night, Ryker sets a plan into motion that will change both of their lives forever.

Will love be able to heal their scars, or are they too deep to overcome?

I was captivated by this story with the first chapter it was a very hard book to put down. After reading some of the reviews I was skeptical about purchasing but I'm glad I did.

Sexual abuse is not always an easy thing for anyone to talk about or move on from but the way Nikki has written it with Kaiya having her demons and Ryker helping her every step of the way really captured the emotional turmoil the victim would feel.

All in all a very well .written book with characters you will love.

4.0 out of 5 stars 4.5 stars. Warrior. 9 February 2014

I was given a ARC for my honest opinion.

Holy balls! this book was pretty amazing, unexpected and HOT!!!!!

This book was intense, sad, funny, happy, emotional, sexy, beautiful. It plays on every emotion possible! and you actually learn a thing or two from it, something I never expected. It grips you from the very start and you do not want to stop until it is finished. It takes you on a roller coaster ride with twists and unexpected turns. It will reel you in and you will find it hard to let go.

Kaiya is a damaged and broken girl. She has been through hell and back from the time she was a child. She is trying to put pieces of her life back together and find some sort of semblance of her life.
In walks Ryker Campbell, sex on on legs extraordinaire. He is a personal trainer at the gym Kamden and Ky are at. They meet and they have an instant connection. Ky starts taking some classes that Ryker is the instructor for and slowly they start to give into their connection and feelings. Both are damaged and have demons, trust issues and insecurities they need to overcome. For Ky it isn't easy letting people in, she has her walls up and Ryker is just the one to break each of those walls down. He is the perfect person to teach her how to move on and put those pieces back together. He is amazing! he cares for her and slowly tries to break down her walls and rules, he never pushes her but instead he embraces her and tries to get her to be better and to never stop fighting. But what happens when things around them come crashing down? can these two have fight their demons and have a chance at happiness and a relationship? or will past demons keep them apart and ruin everything they have worked hard for? you will have to read to find out. But let me tell you, AMAZING book and you will NOT be disappointed with this exquisitely captivating story! must read <3

"They won't be dreams for long. I'll have you soon,"

"I'll always save you, Warrior. You just have to let me."

"But one day,I will break each of those rules-one... by...one. And you're going to love every second of it when I do."

"You know I'm here for you, Warrior. You don't have to fight alone."

"I don't need you to protect me, Warrior.I just need you."

"I'll help you pick up the pieces if you let me, Warrior. I want to be the one to make you whole again."

"I'll always find my way back to you,"

"You can do this, Warrior. You're one of the strongest people I've ever met. I believe in you."

"I'll bear any scar for you, Ky."

5.0 out of 5 stars My God, how did she know? 25 March 2014

I write very few review, only when I am very moved. Incest is a very taboo subject that not many writers can address with a good understanding. As a victim of this and I can attest that much of what Ky felt during and after is pretty spot on. I read the first half of the book yesterday then had a nightmare last night, very specific things usually set them off but I guess this book was close enough to reality that it lit them up. I generally only dream about those dark times about twice a year. My abuse ended 23 years ago. I was reading it again tonight and my husband ask me why. I told him that it reminded me our our relationship. I was a broken angry girl when he found me and his love brought me from the brink of self distraction. I used to wonder why he loved me when I didn't even love myself. He was soooo stubborn and refused to let me slip into the abyss. Ryker showd his love over and over before he even realized what it was. True love isn't always hearts and flowers, sometimes it's dirty and gritty and ugly. The most beautiful scar is usually the uglies wound cauterized by love. I will definitely read more work from this author. Very well written, hot emotional intimate scenes and true connection between H&h.

3.0 out of 5 stars it was good but it needed more 11 February 2014
By The Book Trollop - Published on Amazon.com

Ok, I am going to be a little critical with this review because even though I really enjoyed this book, there was something that just irritated me too and I felt there were things that needed more elaboration.

So here it goes...

The overall storyline was wonderful and I thought the author did a great job with making me feel the attraction between Ryker and Kaiya. The story was dark itself and had subject matter that was a little hard to read but wasn't too hard that I had to stop. The writing was amazing and it flowed nicely, without much interruption.

Kaiya was traumatized as a child and well into her teen years by a family member that was suppose to love her and protect her. So I understood her hesitance with people because of what she lived through but what I did not understand was the way she opened up so fast to Ryker. Yeah I know that it is fictional, but a person who was abused for that long by someone she was suppose to trust... its a little far fetched that she would open up that quickly. I think Ryker would have had to work hard for her trust and I don't think he did. Just because there is a sexual attraction doesn't necessarily equate to overall trust and companionship. I got the sexual attraction but not much else.

Also, Ryker's drama was a little rushed, missing depth, and it was anticlimactic. The way he spoke about what happened seemed like it was going to be this big epic situation and it wasn't really all that intriguing. I understand that the author is writing another book with his story so I was going to acknowledge the lack of information that was given to what happened but now that there is a possible second story, I will wait to see what is going to happen with that before passing judgement.

Kaiya's whole family dynamic was weird too. The author never really explained the mother's problem and why she chose the other person's side over her daughter. The father aspect was missing, what happened with him? Even though he left, did Kaiya not have any contact with him ever again?

I am a very detail oriented person. I like my details and I like to have all my bases covered and I think this story just lacked that for me. I couldn't really connect with the characters because of the lack of depth and details and it really didn't "WOW" me with anything that happened. Just seemed typical of other stories and the Main Character seemed to just get over everything that happened and instead of her working her problems out with a professional, she decided to use Ryker for that and that could be possible if I really felt that she could heal with him, but I don't think she can. She needed professional help.

I think this book could have been incredible, especially with the way the author tells a story but it just needed more, this author needs to push harder and develop the characters a little more with more depth and just... more!! Make me FEEL the f****dupness, make me feel the mending pieces being put back together... Don't just tell me, make me feel it!

Overall, I give this book a 3 because of the way the story was told was efficient enough and the sexual attraction was there for me. Plus, I liked certain aspects, it just needed more.

2.0 out of 5 stars good god this was boring 21 April 2014

So tedious and drawn out. A lot of the scenes were replayed over and over, and what's worse is that it was told from alternating POVs so you had to read the same boring scene twice.

Gym, sex, club, Kaiya runs away. Repeat.

Add in overly detailed self defense classes with characters and plot lines that had little to do with the story.

My Thoughts:

I read the Elemental Prophecy series from Nikki and enjoyed it. So I was all for reading something new from her. I don't know what I was expecting, but this story went above and beyond- it was Amazing. I get the feeling she is really starting to get into the grove with her writing. Her writing and story lines are improving with every book. I can't really talk to you about the storyline itself. There are too many things that would ruin the story for you. All I can say is WHOA! She completely blindsided me with the continual punches to my gut (pun intended). She knocked me out.....

It has taken a few days for me to write this review because I am still trying to digest what I read. It was emotionally draining and dark. I can not even imagine going through some of the things that Ky goes through in this book. To think that things like that actually could or do happen is really F'd up.

On the brighter side we are introduced to Ryker....YUM :) Even though he starts out a little bit cocky he turns out to be the sweetest guy. He is a lover....and a fighter :) Ky is one lucky lady to have him and her protective big brother Kam in her life. They are such an amazing support for her.

Basically you all NEED to go out and get your self a copy of this book. When you do feel free to chat with me about your feelings. I would love to heat what you think.

Thank you Nikki for sharing this beautifully dark and emotional story with us.
