Product Description

Your presence is requested at romantic Twill Castle
for the wedding of Miss Clio Whitmore and ... and ...?

After eight years of waiting for Piers Brandon, the wandering Marquess of Granville, to set a wedding date, Clio Whitmore has had enough. She's inherited a castle, scraped
together some pride, and made plans to break her engagement.

Not if Rafe Brandon can help it. A ruthless prizefighter and notorious rake, Rafe is determined that Clio will marry his brother--even if he has to plan the dratted wedding himself.

So how does a hardened fighter cure a reluctant bride's cold feet?
  • He starts with flowers. A wedding can't have too many flowers. Or harps. Or cakes.
  • He lets her know she'll make a beautiful, desirable bride--and tries not to picture her as his.
  • He doesn't kiss her.
  • If he kisses her, he definitely doesn't kiss her again.
  • When all else fails, he puts her in a stunning gown. And vows not to be nearby when the gown comes off.
  • And no matter what--he doesn't fall in disastrous, hopeless love with the one woman he can never call his own.

This was really good fun, not quite as compelling as the first book in this series Romancing the Duke. Clio has been engaged to her absent fiancé for 8 years. Having inherited a castle she feels able to break the engagement and start an independent life. But first she needs to get her fiancé's brother Rafe to legally break the betrothal. Rafe is the disreputable member of his family, a prizefighter disowned by his father.

I enjoyed the humour, especially with Rafe's fight manager making a sad attempt to act aristocratic. Clio's family was entertaining, using her offensive nickname 'dumpling' and trying to force her into too small wedding dresses. So it was a really good read. I only gave it four stars because it just didn't flow as well as the first book Romancing the Duke.

An enjoyable read where two people who don't fit the societal mould struggle to find each other.
I have enjoyed Tessa Dares Spindle Cove series but was delighted to find this other series 'Castles Ever After' every bit as good. If you like English historical romance, give it a go.
