Could not put it down! The mystery and adventure in this love story is captivating. Wish there was more love scenes😉, clean romance which was amazingly well written.not my usual read. definitely recommend.
I really liked the storyline of this book, but oh dear, it took me twice as long to read it than it normally would the reason being that I got so fed up with the wording of some of it. For example since when did the Regency Lords and Ladies refer to their mother as Mum, and it was so off putting that every time any one was mentioned it was Lady this and Lady that even between mother and daughter. What was also off putting was when they talked of Lord Christian and Mr Collin especially when their mother and sister were speaking of them. I almost deleted it from my kindle, and I do wish American authors would stop referring to The Stoop I presume they mean steps. The storyline was good and it could have rated 5 stars except for these silly mistakes. Perhaps a little more research is called for before the next book.
The story was a little slow in the middle, but the ending was good. I wanted Locke to have a few more character flaws . Maybe it would have been interesting to add a little about Locke's adventures or how he was actively looking for ways to protect Bethany. Both main characters were likeable, and the reader wants them to succeed. The plot was carefully planned.
There were some odd Regency issues, like reading Jane Austen (maybe change it to the Mysteries of Udolpho?) and constantly using formal titles for her husband and best friends unless formal introductions were being made. These little things could be improved with a little research.
Loved this story, the characters, and the plot. Some of the elements reminded me of The Scarlet Pimpernel (which is one of my favorite books) and they increased my enjoyment of the story even more. Can't wait to see if the author does more Regency stories. This one is great!
I just finished this book and I have to say... I loved it! The characters felt real, their relationship felt real. I loved Lord Locke immediately, and connected with Bethany, understanding her own struggles and fears. It was very well written, an excellent romantic suspense. I'd happily read this again and again. Would I recommend it?? Absolutely!
What a fun read! Ms. Susan knows her way around historical romance then adds defining layers to make a rick book! The knowledge and detail of horses and country living were enhanced by multi-layered subplots and plenty of intrigue. I thought of the characters galloping the hills and dales when I was in England. Well done!
