Product Description

Lady Bethany would rather die a spinster than submit to marriage—and thus reveal the horrible secret she has harbored for more than a year
Lord Locke is far too immersed in his service to the Crown for romance, but Lady Bethany is in dire circumstances.
Indebted to Bethany’s late father and his close friend, the earl offers a perfect solution for both of them: a marriage in name only.
Perfect, if only they weren’t so irresistibly drawn to each other—and if Bethany hadn’t found herself falling in love with a man even more mysterious than his reputation. Perfect, until she unwittingly learns he’s protecting her from a threat to her life.
To Mark, Bethany is just another assignment, a woman he’s convinced is hiding something. His offer of marriage was meant only to make it easier to safeguard her.
But when the simple threat turns to attempted murder and treason, Mark realizes that Bethany has stolen his heart and he can do nothing less than throw himself into a race against time to save her, whatever the price.

MY TAKE
This was a fun story. I found myself really drawn to the two love interests and enjoyed seeing their relationship grown. I saw the twist at the end a long time before it came, but not the motivations behind it. There are some real heartbreaking elements to the story, so be prepared with a tissue.

I marked it down because some of the story did drag in places a little, and the resolution at the end took forever.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic! 9 January 2017

Loved this story, the characters, and the plot. Some of the elements reminded me of The Scarlet Pimpernel (which is one of my favorite books) and they increased my enjoyment of the story even more. Can't wait to see if the author does more Regency stories. This one is great!

5.0 out of 5 stars I loved it! The characters felt real 9 March 2017

I just finished this book and I have to say... I loved it! The characters felt real, their relationship felt real. I loved Lord Locke immediately, and connected with Bethany, understanding her own struggles and fears. It was very well written, an excellent romantic suspense. I'd happily read this again and again. Would I recommend it?? Absolutely!

She has a secret he's trying to protect, a secret someone is willing to kill for.
This story has great characters and a satisfying romantic buildup between them.

3.0 out of 5 stars Just okay. 26 November 2016

I'm truly sorry but this book just did not do it for me. It had a good plot but it just was not thrilling. I guessed the villain and the "secret" early on but I believe the author wanted me too. Everything was just too contrived. There were proof reading problems. Normally that does not bother me because I am so "into" the storyline. But in this book it was annoying because I had to back and reread the paragraph to make sense of it.
***Spoiler alert***. I also had a problem with the rape of the heroine. I avoid those books so wanted teo include that in case anyone else does not wish to read of it. The reader doesn't "witness" the rspe but it is broadly described by the heroine and the after affects go through most of the book.
