Though plagued by frequent typos which made me suspect that nobody had proofread the text, I enjoyed this novel in the Sanders Of The River series. The three main characters are sent back to Africa to bring law & order to a formerly inaccessible native kingdom by the League Of Nations in the wake of colonial boundary changes after the Great War. Unlike the other books in the series, thus one is not a collection of short stories which combine to loosely plot a bigger story arc - it tells its rather larger tale in more conventional chapters. Frankly, some modern readers will find this novel to be too ‘racist’; it comes from a bygone era when a handful of European administrators had to use unsubtle methods to control tribal peoples who might kill each other over all manner of mundane & startling causes.
