5.0 out of 5 stars Great story! 23 January 2017

I'm a big football fan and every season I always choose a NFL based sports romance. It's kind of like when readers tend to read a Christmas themed romance book during Christmas time. It just gets your mind set in the season. This year I chose Safe Bet by Monica Murphy. This book is about Wade a rookie wide receiver for the Forty Niners and Sydney a down on her luck woman who is trying to rebuild her life by taking a job of a nanny for the current superstar quarterback or the Forty Niners and his family. A series of unfortunate events surrounding her famous employer forces Wade and Sydney to fake a relationship for the media.

I should let you know that I am a big Monica Murphy fan. I loved her series featuring Drew and Fable. It was nice to see these characters again and to see Wade finally get his book. It felt like a nice happy reunion. I should mention that this book can be read as a stand-alone. Be warned though that this book will make you want to read the other book in the series.

I liked the pace in which Wade and Sydney's relationship developed. Everything didn't happen all at once. It made the moment when they finally realize their feelings together more genuine. Wade was swoon worthy. He was a man that new his way around a woman as well as he knew his way around the field, like a true pro. Just wow!

This was a great read. It kept you on the edge but not enough to be angsty. It was enough for you to get that happy feeling when they finally confess their love for each other.

3.0 out of 5 stars Predictable but good! 14 January 2017

Looking for a quick, lighthearted read? Safe Bet by Monica Murphy may just be the read for you!

If you've read the One-Week Girlfriend Series and have been dying for more Drew and Fable, or have read any of the previous books in The Rules Series, this is a mash-up of characters from both series. If you haven't read either, don't worry, you can read this book without getting lost as it can be read as a stand-alone, since Monica does a perfect job of giving you all the information you need in this book, and this is Wade and Sydney's story anyways.

I really adored Sydney's character and how she wanted to prove her parents wrong, especially after they threw her out for lying to them about college. Being inside her head when she was interviewing for the job as a nanny for Fable and Drew was hilarious because you could see how nervous she was and just how young and inexperienced she really was. I could feel her nerves radiating off of my Kindle and I felt for her, but I knew just by her and Fable's conversation that the two of them were going to be great friends and everything was going to work out. Sydney is feisty, yet shy, she kind of knows what she wants in life, but at the same time she doesn't. She's protective of the ones she cares about, and she loves the life she's built being the nanny for Drew and Fable.

Wade is an up and coming rookie in the NFL, and also Fable's brother's best friend. He's scared to death he's not going to make the final cut, and no matter what Drew does to pump him up and make him believe in himself, he's nervous his dreams are going to come crashing down. I understand his fears, when everything you have hoped and dreamed about is just within your grasp it's scary as crap, so I get why he was freaking out. He doesn't believe in love, and relationships and the only thing he is focused on right now is making it in the NFL. Problem is once he lays eyes on Sydney, there's an instant attraction, and he knows he doesn't have time for anything, but that attraction won't go away.

When one simple picture gets taken the wrong way in the media, Fable comes up with a "wonderful" idea to put Wade and Sydney in a "fake" relationship for a week to get rid of Sydney's "naughty nanny" persona and make the media think she is not having an affair with Drew. Both Sydney and Wade agree to it, as they both aren't looking for a real relationship, but both of them can't deny their attraction to one another. I knew instantly this was going to end up just like Drew and Fable! Wade and Sydney belonged together and thankfully it didn't take them long to figure it out. Sure they said things that they thought the other one wanted to hear, but once they realized what they wanted, they went for it, and it was HOT.

My only real complaints about this book was it was very predictable and there wasn't a lot of angst or drama. You knew what was going to happen and there wasn't any real build up to it happening. It also was a very quick read that left me wanting more, I felt as if there could have been a little more to the story, but that's my opinion. I really did enjoy this book, but I was missing some angst, drama, or some twist... something was missing for me in this book. Safe Bet is definitely worth picking up though for fans of the Rules Series or the One Week Girlfriend Series as you do get to catch up with all your favorite characters and see these two finally get their HEA as well!

5.0 out of 5 stars Winning Bet For Me!!! 11 January 2017

Safe Bet by Monica Murphy.....OMG, this book was a winning bet for me, it is sweet, sexy, drama, hot NFL players, friendships and great characters. Wade and Sydney are so perfect together you will be pulling for these two, you feel like they are your friends. Drew and Fable are married with kids and looking for a nanny and Sydney is looking for a job. Wade is a new players on the football team that Drew is the Quarterback for and they are friends, so now you know how Wade and Sydney met. You will want to read this book, so you find out what happens. Monica Murphy is one of my favorite authors, she writes her sex scenes beautiful, always so tasteful, she is amazing. I voluntarily reviewed an advance readers copy of this book.
4.0 out of 5 stars Sweet 22 March 2017

This was a really low-angst, sweet read. I'm a huge Drew and Fable fan so anything that gets me back to their world is good for me. Wade and Sydney were a good couple. I appreciated the fact that even though they were young they didn't do a lot of the stupid things that often happen in books with young characters. They were both pretty upfront with each other about their pasts which was refreshing. All that being said, it felt like there were a lot of loose ends that never got tied up. I would have liked to hear what choices Sydney made about her future, how Wade did on the team, what happened with the blogger. I think it ended too soon. I did love the bonus scene with Drew and Fable though!
5.0 out of 5 stars Sexy and fun read! 19 January 2017

I haven't read any other books in this series (which you didn't need to anyways) and I really enjoyed it! I love when people are "set up" or are in a "fake" relationship. It is always something fun to read and I love watching them turn into something more. Hot football players, fake romances, and drama... need I say more? I may go back and read all of the other books in this series because all the characters were mentioned and I'd like to know more, but again, not a necessity to read this book. If you are looking for a fun, sexy, playful read - this is for you!
