A great value on a guide to an indisensable software product--SPSS
Reviewed in the United States on 13 May 2009Verified Purchase
Everyone in the biological and behavioral sciences uses SPSS statistical analysis software to crunch numbers in their field. SPSS has been around for nearly twenty years and is not much changed from year to year; if it were, hundreds of thousands of experienced users would have to learn it all over again and the software would grow unpopular. I bought this guide to last year's edition 16.0 for a pittance. If I learned best through reading a text, this text would be more than adequate, since it features pictures illustrating the program's steps on every page. But since the book was accompanied by a CD that walks the student through each of the program's steps in setting up a file and analyzing its data, using screens identical to the commercial version, there is little or no reason to consult the text, as the CD/tutorial stands firmly on its own. The combination book and CD are therefore all one needs to completely master SPSS, and buying last year's guide proves to be an extraordinary value for very little money.

SPSS Users Manual

I was just starting to use SPSS and needed a good introductory guide that explained all the features of the Base SPSS software. This book is excellent and explained in brief detail each feature. The chapters are well organized.

very basic user manual

I was a little disappointed in this book. I was looking for something to extend my use of SPSS, to help me find some of the more obscure commands. This is basically a print-out of the Help that you can find through your SPSS program anyway. While it can sometimes be useful to have Help on paper, I'm not sure that this was worth my investment.
