Product description

Product Description

Mackenzie Steele assumed she’d be with her husband forever. He's still her best friend and the father of her children. But when weeks turn into months without intimacy, she realizes she's too young to feel so old. She wants to feel desirable again, to find the woman Ryker fell in love with twenty years ago. And there’s only one way to do that… by asking him to move out.
Ryker's blindsided when his wife tells him she wants to separate. He knew they’d hit a rough patch, but he’d never allowed himself to imagine his life without her. Now he has no choice. She seems happy without him, living life on her own terms, and he knows if he doesn’t find a place for himself in her new life, it will be too late to save his marriage.

Really good book. For me it was a page turner. This book had a little bit of everything. There is romance, suspence and thrills all wrapped up in this one book. Great writing from start to finish. I would definitely read more books by Cheryl Douglas.

As much as I dislike not having a perfectly clear HEA wrapped up in a big ribbon, I feel the HFN works well for this book (Hello? First in a series of hot brothers? More of the characters in the rest of the books?).

Me being me here, I'm going to mention something I read in another review (it's not verbatim and I'm not going to go looking for it so I can quote word for word cos' I'm lazy). It's pointed out that our h forgives our H pretty much instantly for something he keeps from her towards the very end of the book. It has very big consequences, and the other reviewer said it didn't seem believable and that one protagonist involved wasn't dealt with correctly. While it is something that wasn't 110% corrected... I believe it, and I get the H's reasoning and I get the h reasoning. It's life, love and 20 odd years of being in a relationship with someone and trusting their words. YES, she left him for half a year. YES, it was both their faults. NO, no-one cheated, it honestly was lack of communication that caused it AND the little drama near the end. I do think that that drama made our H realise his own idiocy. We shall see in the rest of the series :D

I sort of enjoyed this book but felt Ryker just agreeing to move out when Mackenzie asked him without any discussion too silly.
Mac then had a personal trainer to lose weight and a life coach to sort herself out. Why couldn't she have done this whilst married if she was unhappy.
Yes they spent the few months talking and Ryker was guilty of ignoring Mac to a certain degree but I felt like Mac was having a midlife crisis and could indulge herself as they were rich.
Her so called friend Molly was a nightmare pushing Mac to get a divorce.
The ending also seemed undefined. When I was there, it was just oh, that's how it ends.

Took a while to get into. Was going to stop reading at 10% through but thought I'd give it a bit more of a chance. I enjoyed the story but found it hard going. Not sure if I'll read more from this author.
