I was really looking forward to this final book of the series. I'd loved Dave's character from the very beginning, he's a yummy mix of larrikin and lad, with a huge heart, a protective streak for those he cares about, and he cooks a mean pasta to boot!

Grant was a relative unknown, other than being Ty's friend from Melbourne and being ridiculously good looking. We knew he'd recently had a rough time, and it was good to get some more insight into this, and Grant himself, as the story developed.

Again, I was shedding tears before the prologue was done and this had me gunning for both these guys to get their happy ending. I was on the edge of my seat throughout, though, wondering how a well-groomed, yuppy, who likes the finer things in life and has to present a certain image, and has so many skeletons and secrets rattling around in his closet, could possibly fall for good ol' country boy, "little bit wild" Dave, who's open and honest and not afraid to be just himself. And how could they make their very different worlds become cohesive enough to even contemplate anything long term.

I also loved that the book was set in Melbourne this time, a vast difference from the previous country living scene in Armidale. It gave a new and fresh spin to the series, but still introduced elements of the country life. To me it was a little like Aesop's fable, Town Mouse and Country Mouse, well, except Dave and Grant are definitely not cousins (because cousins wouldn't do THAT!)

No spoilers, but I ended the book with a contented sigh, a big smile on my face, and a nicely squishy heart, just how I like it. I'm really going to miss all these Rustic guys. I wonder if we plead and beg hard enough the author might let them out to play again :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Great story! 23 April 2016

Loved this instalment! After disaster befalls him on both a work and personal front, Grant goes back to see his best friend, Ty. It is there we see all the characters from the previous book, and there Grant meets Dave and changes his fate forever. After heading back to Melbourne, Grant welcomes Dave into his home. It's there they get to know one another, and there Dave finds out (and at times confronts) the issues Grant has been dealing with.

I loved the way their relationship developed.

Great story! Love this series :)

4.0 out of 5 stars Thank Goodness for Dave 25 April 2016

The previous books in this series were strong because both MCs were fully developed, if slightly flawed, people. In this one, Big, strong, bald hunk Dave is the one who is over-the-top in his humanity and affection. Grant (on the cover). on the other hand, is supposed to be the protagonist, but is annoying.

That is it in a nutshell. Grant is too concerned with his ex-boyfriend, his ex-partner, his failing business, his reluctance to commit to anything other than rescuing himself, to be the kind of character you root for. Instead, you root for Dave, who is besotted from the start with the slimmer, prettier and somewhat distracted Grant, even though you suspect he doesn't deserve him.

I am wondering if this is the end of the "Rustic" series. If it is, it's not a bad ending because it sort of wraps up a few chapters in the lives of young gay men in today's Australia. If it's not, I will get the next one, too, though I cannot imagine whom it will concern from the other characters that were introduced in this one.

Poor Grant has suffered throughout most of his life everyone important to him used and abused him. When romance finally has come to visit Grant things don't go according to plan or do they. Great read I have absolutely enjoyed this series. Hoping for more from Nic Starr to follow.
