Can a boy from the country and a guy from the city ever make it work?

Adam Chambers has never seen eye-to-eye with his father and is reluctant to take over the family’s property-development company. To clear his head and work out what he wants to do with the rest of his life, Adam leaves his responsibilities in the city and heads out to see the country.

He isn’t much closer to deciding what to do with his life when he arrives at one of Australia’s largest events, the Tamworth Country Music Festival, and meets Joey Callaway.

Since Joey’s father’s tragic death left Joey the family’s debt-ridden pub, Joey has struggled, desperate to turn the business around and give his mum the life she deserves. A break away from the pressures of running the pub is just what he needs, and a hook-up with Adam is the perfect way to forget about his troubles.

The one-night stand might just be an opening act. If Adam and Joey can follow the music in their hearts, perhaps they can heal each other and create a melody that will last a lifetime.

It's no often I can find works of this genre set in my country, let alone on the same coast I inhabit, so when I do I get "squee" excited! I Love hearing familiar names of places and being able to say "I've been there" or "Yes, that's exactly what that place is like, including the locals," and that's half the joy I get from the book just on its own.

When the story itself turns out to be so beautifully written and full of just downright real and lovable characters who you connect with and just want to hug and say "I know how you feel, mate, and It's all going to be okay." Well, to me it makes a winner of a book.

Nic Starr's first foray into self-publishing, to me, has been a huge success. The product, aside from the captivating story and the promise of more to come in the series, is excellent and a credit to her and her team, and that cover, with Adam, *sigh*

I loved the instant connection between Joey and Adam and had high hopes that they would connect and somehow get to their HEA, somehow. They are just two totally different guys, leading separate lives hours away from each other and tied to commitments to their families. How was is ever going to happen or survive?

A poignant reminder that love always wins if you follow your heart and take those chances. Thanks Nic for that reminder and for putting it into words to share and keep us all warm and fuzzy (even in the hot Aussie summer heat). I know I'll be rereading this one again and again, and eagerly anticipating the next two additions to come. I'm looking forward to revisiting those familiar places and meeting some new guys and hearing their stories.

I love when a novel is based in my own country, there is just something about an outback romance. That hits the spot and Nic Star does not disappoint with Joey & Adam. I was a little apprehensive about reading this as I find some m/m sometimes can't seem to balance the romance with the sexual chemistry. But this novel had it all the chemistry and yet sweet tender moments. As two completely different men there backgrounds are opposite. But both struggle with family issues. Both grow together and seem stronger with each other. I couldn't help but fall in love with both of there personalities.
Some may have issue with the Aussie slang but it's something minor and does not take away from the overall enjoyable read. Beautiful Story.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice Series Opener 24 February 2016
By Bo - Published on Amazon.com

Set in a small university town a couple of hours from Sydney, Australia, this is the first of a series which I gather will center around the restaurant/bar/lodge that ginger Joey Callaway owns and manages with his mum. They are the center of the story, which is why it's so shocking to realize that it's Adam Chambers, a well off young man who is indulging in wanderlust with his guitar in order to find himself--and get away from his domineering father--who is on the cover. (Well, I won't hold it against the author--Adam apparently is a super guitar player with a beautiful voice, if we are to believe Joey).

This one is a sweet, sometimes angsty, sometimes silly, tale of a struggling widow and her ambitious but overwhelmed (by work) son who get lucky in a way when that son, Joey, is sent away by his mum for a little vacation to the regional country music festival up the road a bit. (Yes, there is country music in Australia). There he bumps into Adam, who is contemplating his future which he has decided will not include working for the family real estate development firm because his father is such a bastard, and unethical to boot. Except Adam keeps postponing decisions and can't quite seem to get his act together--until he meets Joey and his eyes are opened and his lower extremities come awake.

This is a scorching, but still somewhat subdued, romance which is viewed mostly from Joey's side, and that is because Adam reveals very little of what he is thinking. Joey is easy to read and he has a plan, and Adam is complex and unsure of himself, but he has lots of plans to sort out first. Thank goodness they start working on plans somewhere along the way.

This is a relaxing, sometimes frustrating, but in the end totally likeable beginning to a series in which one of the MCs in the next book is introduced literally at the end. Getting that sequel when it's published.

5.0 out of 5 stars 174 pages of feel good heart warming love 28 February 2016

Heart warming love story set in the country of Australia. This is a relatively quick, light hearted read of a new love. Adam is traveling around Australia in the hopes of getting his act together and his priorities in order. Living up to his father’s expectations and working for the family company has been more than Adam can tolerate any longer. So now he is trying to figure out what he is going to do for the rest of his life.
Joey has been struggling to keep his family’s business afloat. Although he loves the day to day workings of the bar and restaurant, as well as taking care of the customers. The business end is driving him crazy. Taking care of the place fell into his hands after the death of his dad. Never having any formal business business training, Joey is flying by the seat of his pants, putting in long sometimes back breaking days. With the insistence of his mom, Joey takes a short holiday to a music festival a few hours away. That is where he meets Adam, and the start of the beautiful story of this book.

The plot is a very simple boy meets boy. Boy makes decisions about the rest of his life. Men start a new life together. The chemistry is a gradual building of friendship to full of passion love. The pacing is steady with a twist that eventually brings these two sexy guys together. Loved the ending, but I am a sucker for a happy ever after. Joey and Adam grow with each other each complementing one another and bringing out the best in that they can be.

4.0 out of 5 stars Romance in Australia ! 2 February 2016

I have always wondered what it would be like to be able to jump in your car and just drive off. Go anywhere that took your fancy. Well Adam Chambers is doing just that. He doesn't see eye to eye with his father and wants no part of the family business. Driving around, Adams hopes to come up with a plan for his life.

Joey Callaway is running his father's pub in the small town of Armidale. He is exhausting himself, keeping the pub afloat, but he has no choice if he wants to get the pub to where it can be sold. Life takes an unexpected turn, when Joey spies Adam across the pub. With the backdrop of the Tamworth Country Music Festival, Joey and Adam might just find in each other what they both are looking for.

This was sweet, fun, and romantic. I enjoyed the characters immensely. Being a sucker for anything Australian, I had a great time, and it leaves the reader with a nice afterglow.

5.0 out of 5 stars A sweet feel good story 30 January 2016

Nic Starr is a must-buy author for me and Rustic Melody was a lovely story. Enough tension, with Adam's father and Joey's pub, to keep the story interesting but not a lot of angst. I would love to read more about Adam and Joey and their cafe on the North Coast. And I thought perhaps there might be a story for Tyler who pops up at the last minute. Home town boy returns, hmm? Another winner!
