Product description

Product Description

All Calum remembers is growing up in a peaceful settlement in the Isles on the edge of the North Sea. Across that icy sea, Lena has grown up the daughter of an Isles man taken as a slave in a Northern raid.

As their two worlds collide, a spiralling cycle of violence, fear and bloodshed begins to engulf Calum and Lena. It seems that only by combining their fledgling knowledge of the Rune of Odin might they escape a terrible fate.

5.0 out of 5 stars great read 30 September 2013

I found this book after reading the Bhel Sea by the same author. Although it's directed at a YA audience, it is a great read for anyone, with plenty of adventure, rune magic and different points of view from both sides of an invasion. Im looking forward to reading the rest of this series by Ben Julien.

There are only a handful of books my teenage daughter has had trouble putting down and this is one of them. The author has found the right tone to appeal to young adults and the story is fast-paced and full of action and emotion. The story unfolds from both a young man and young woman's point of view which was definitely part of the appeal for my daughter. I would recommend this to anyone - whether they are lovers of the fantasy genre or not!

My nephew recently fell in love with the Vikings tv series, so I decided to find him more viking related stories and stumbled across this book. He absolutely loved it, and blitzed through the book in less than a week!

He told me that the overall story is very different to the TV show but this was actually much more fun and interesting. I've decided to get him the remaining books in the trilogy after his positive reaction.

Highly recommended by my 11 year old nephew!

Lucky find - fast paced, fun and full of mystery, magic and mythology. A viking story from the point of view of the invaders and the invaded. Loved it.

A different take on vikings and runes. Two young adults, Calum and Lena, finding their own way in a dangerous world. Good fun and a definite page turner.
