Product Description

Living after the loss of my father, and at the cruel attention of my mother, I, Eli Madsen, was stuck in a world eclipsed in secrets of pain, fear and loneliness.

Pushed to the edge with nowhere to go but down, I dreamed of an escape. Little did I know that the boy next door would give me just that.

He knew my pain, my fears and my secrets because he had them too.

He was my hope, my love, my light and my promise.

Brought together by an unlikely bond, we found something in each other that couldn’t be ignored; safety, strength and hope. Leaving everything, including the darkness behind, we set out to make a new life for ourselves.

We ran away from our past and ran towards our future.

Until the day darkness found us once again, and promises made became promises broken.

We had a plan.
We had each other.
We had love.
And then we had nothing.

Runaway Love is a story of finding light in the midst of darkness. It’s a story of making something beautiful out of something so dark. But most of all, it’s a story of hope, love and taking chances.

This is the first book in a two-book series. Each book can be read as a stand alone, and do not end in cliff-hangers.

5.0 out of 5 stars *** THIS DEBUT RAN AWAY WITH MY HEART! *** 22 November 2016

After her father’s death, Elizabeth “Eli” Madsen can’t wait to graduate early from high school. Her diploma is a one-way ticket out of the hell her abusive mother has created. Eli’s eyes are focused solely on freedom until a new family, the McAvoys, moves in next door. They initially seem like the perfect family, but Eli soon learns that appearances can be deceiving when she realizes Drew, the son, is being subjected to similar treatment from his parents.

Eli and Drew’s bruises bond them, and they lean on each other for support and comfort. It isn’t long before their mutual respect and admiration for one another blossoms into the kind of love that neither thought they would ever experience. When Drew’s situation becomes unbearable, the pair flee their broken homes to begin a life together in a new city. Although they’ve already had to grow up sooner than most kids their age, they traverse the ups and downs of sudden adulthood and its demands with hard work and determination. Eli does whatever she can to be the optimistic foil to Drew’s pessimistic attitude. Although they walk an often uneven and bumpy path, they always navigate it together.

When an unforeseen event shakes Drew to his core, he questions his ability to protect Eli. And in an effort to keep her safe, he ends their relationship. This hurts Eli more than all of the blows she endured from her mother combined. She mourns losing Drew for a while, then vows to rebuild her broken heart and move on to make something of herself.

Six years later, Eli has healed enough from her past to give other runaways a safe haven in the form of the group home she co-runs with a partner. She shares an apartment with her best friend and enthusiastically agrees to marry Max Preston, a handsome and successful young lawyer who negotiates contracts for professional athletes.

Everything is perfect until her past and her present unexpectedly collide. All of the feelings Eli thought she’d let go of flood her head and her heart as she struggles to get closure and her happily ever after at the same time.

I’m stunned that this is a debut novel. Ms. Lee is a talented writer who obviously chooses her words carefully in order to take the reader on a wildly emotional rollercoaster ride. I teared up several times as Eli once again tried to put herself back together after unexpected event blew apart the pieces she had so tediously glued together years ago. And the secondary characters added so much to this story with humor and warmth that perfectly counteracted the angst and turmoil between the main characters. I adored Tess and thought she was hilariously inappropriate without being crass or crude. She’d the kind of best friend we should all be so lucky to have in real life. Cedric intrigued me. I think he’s an enigma and I suspect he has one hell of a backstory. My fingers are crossed that the details are shared in a future novel. I look forward to learning more about him and a few others as this series progresses.

5.0 out of 5 stars Runaway Love definitely ran away with my heart!! 12 December 2016

Runaway Love by Jamie Lee
My rating 5 of 5 stars

Eli lost her father at a young age and her mother turned to drugs and alcohol. Eli had a troubled childhood and had only one goal of getting out when she was old enough.

Drew moved in next to Eli. He didn't have the picture perfect family. His dad took his anger out on Drew. Drew tried to hide it, but Eli saw through it.

Drew and Eli's connection is strong from the very beginning. You can feel the chemistry between the two. One night, Drew decided to Runaway, and Eli goes with him. They were head over heels for each other and their new life until Eli is attacked one night. Drew blames himself and pushes Eli to go live with her aunt.

Six years later, Eli is happy and engaged to Max. Everything is going great until she meets one of Max's new clients, Drew. Eli, in shock runs. She never had closure all those years ago and seeks it now. Will Max and Eli continue with their relationship or will Eli realize she gave her heart away all those years ago?

This is my first read from Jamie. I instantly fell in love with the characters. It is a story about abuse, love, tragedy, and forgiveness. I found myself lost in the story from the very beginning. Runaway Love definitely ran away with my heart!

Runaway Love by Jamie Lee is an amazing and delightful read!
I finished it one sitting! From the first chapter to the last, I was hooked. The author did an amazing job on the story. What a story it is! You meet Eli and Drew. You follow them through their ups and downs. I laughed and cried with them. I felt what they felt. By the time the book was done, these characters had become my friends.
Speaking of characters, every one of them was well written. Of course I have my favorites and am pleased that they will be getting their own book. Eli was great. I could relate to her. I do like that when reading a book. I love love Tess! Sassy and spunky. She reminded me of myself.
This book was very enjoyable and had some def feels moments. I can't wait for the next book! I give this 5 stars
