Zoey

Turning thirty is overrated. Who said you had to be married with a fabulous career and three kids? I had a great life. Single, freedom to do whatever I please, and best of all, stay home on a Friday night in my sweats, eating pizza while listening to the best of the ’80s.

I’m fine.

Drew

When a woman says she’s fine, she’s not fine. Zoey had it all. Stunning looks, ambition, the whole package. Then he fucked her up. He broke her.

And now I’m left picking up the pieces…again.

Zoey Richards, strong-willed and driven, settled on the geeky struggling med student to share her apartment with, not the perfect-in-every-way stud who would just distract her and undoubtedly break her heart.

When her ex comes back into the picture, Zoey seeks revenge and enlists her roommate’s help. All Zoey and Drew need to do is pretend to be a couple for one night. But one night can change everything. Refusing to break their “roomie code,” and in an effort to deny their feelings for each other, a war erupts between Zoey and Drew.

She lives in the past; he, for the future. If opposites attract, will these two gamble their friendship for a chance at love?

I love everything 80's and this book took me back in time and had me singing the songs our heroine, Zoey was belting out or simply listening to. She's quite an unusual character, quirky, diminutive but big personality, friendly and passionate about her work as an architect. A failed one year relationship with Jess who disrespected her has reduced her to a shadow of herself. Gone was the lustre in her personality and she barely survived life with just pizza and her best friend and roomie, Drew. Witnessing the drama unfold with Zoey's lovelife was enough to make him swear off commitment. That and his issues with his mother who left him and his dad when he was a little boy. Aries (Drew) and Libra (Zoey) are not very compatible star signs at all - both exhibited tendencies to hurt each other. Hence the title of the book. They were constantly arguing and fighting and yet shared a deep and caring friendship. They clash a lot but often settled their differences as friends do. The 5 cardinal rules in the roommate agreement were quite funny and served them well for 4 years till the day Zoey nearly drowned. Things started to change especially for Drew who thought almost losing Zoey was something he could not bear. Sparks fly and both began to reevaluate their relationship and felt something more. Awkwardness follows and so do the complications of falling in love with your best friend.

Just when I was dying to get to their HEA, Kat T. Masen expertly maneuvres the story to a different direction and I held my breath because it was the last few minutes towards the end and I still can't see the what I was hoping for. It almost killed me but I love this book. The dialogue between the characters are funny and the anxiety and distress in some scenes are palpable.

When we first meet Zoey & Drew, she's the confident architect student & he's the awkward medical student. Fast forward a few years & a destructive relationship there's a slight role reversal.
Drew has morphed into a manwhore & Zoey has reverted into herself & hides her insecurities behind her love of pizza & 80's music.

While I loved their story, their chemistry & the twist & turns of this book. There were also a few time when they frustrated me greatly. For to very smart people at times they were so caught up in their own head, thoughts & perceptions that they couldn't see what was right in front of them.

I really hope that there is another book to come as it feels to me like there is still so much left unsaid or still to come

As the story progresses you want to hit Zoey &Drews heads together. I loved the dual POVS. I also got very frustrated with them too! Its great to get both sides. Drew went from geeky to hot, Zoey went in the opposite direction. Hers all due to a cheating ex. It's a classic roomies, friends, lovers? to more tale. However they wouldn't admit it to the other. So this entails a bit of head banging. But it's not an easy ride. Both hearts are broken until Zoey finds herself again. So you have to wait until the end to see if their stars finally align.

Kat hasn't disappointed with the tale of roomies Zoey and Drew. Full of laughs and some tears but comes with a warning.... DO NOT READ if you need to get up early the next day or have an appointment or have a family that can't be ignored all day and night because you WILL NOT be able to put this book down. Loveable, strong characters, unpredictable storyline and whitty one liners mean you won't regret your purchase. I want more!

This book was easily read with a great attitude from the author which came through in her words. The story line flowed well with a great mix of laughter and seriousness. I would recommend this book to anyone.

Four and half stars.

First of all I'll say I'm not usually a fan of anything that doesn't involve some kind of paranormal element. Roomie Wars was great, and even better, it's by an Australian author.

I read the entire book in one sitting as I couldn't put it down. I loved Drew and Zoey was great. Loved the mentions of the 80's music, and movies too. There were plenty of funny moments and a couple of really well written sex scenes.

I especially loved that the author wrote from the POV of both characters!

I'd recommend Rommie Wars to anyone who loves a lighthearted romance novel, and I'll be looking for more books by Kat T. Masen.

Straight out brilliant!

Zoey is all sorts of crazy - her love of lip smackers, pizza and tragic 80's music make her an interesting room mate. Combine that with her sassy, unfiltered thoughts and the depressive funk she's fallen into after a break up with a jerk, and life in her world would never be boring.

Enter Dr Drew. When he moved in he was pudgy, geeky and wearing a spongebob t-shirt - pretty much the reason he got the room. There was no way Zoey was going to fall for a guy like that!

Fast forward four years and Drew has become her best friend. Her hot best friend.

While they attempt to avoid their feeling for each other, life kicks them in the ass testing the strength of their bond.

This book is an emotional roller coaster that will have you giggling before you burst into tears and hold your breath alongside two of your favourite characters.

I wish one day I could write such fun, real, emotional, loveable characters and imbed them in an awesome story line.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I need more from this amazing author! Congratulations Kat T Masen... You've created something great here!
