What she doesn’t count on is meeting and falling for sexy policeman Alessandro. But the course of true love doesn’t run smoothly – Alessandro has five meddling sisters, a fearsome mama and a beautiful ex Orazia. They’re all certain that Kate is not the girl for him.

Can Kate and Alessandro’s love last the distance? Or will she return home with the one souvenir she doesn’t want – a broken heart …

I’m so glad I squeezed this book in this week! The last book I read of Tilly’s was Little Acts of Love when I was a newbie book blogger. I gotta say, Tilly has upped her writing game! Seriously. I loved Little Acts but Rome is Where the Heart is totally showed me how good an author can get as they continue writing! Wow!

Kate is such a great character and the opening scene is enough to make anyone want to read through the book quickly hoping that she will end up with a happy ending. I so felt for her, having her childhood sweetheart, and then her long time husband, walk out on her! My heart broke right there in the first chapter. I loved the reaction of her sisters too. They were so sincerely worried about Kate and being you grow apart a tad as an adult even when you’re siblings they had a hard time telling her exactly what they were feeling. Isn’t that just so true to life?

Then there is Rome. Now, I’ve never been to Rome, I’d love too, but I haven’t made it so far. Tilly wrote Rome in such a fabulous way that I felt like I’d been there. I could picture it in detail, the shops, the food, the exploring, such fun! I loved the characters, the travel, the city and just the overall feel of this book. It was fun, funny and I routed for Kate right from the first page.

Nice details were some of the sideline stories that Tilly threw in, such as the dress making, Kate’s sisters, her new gay American BFF Jamie and all the little things that came along with Alessandro. I read this in 1 day because I just couldn’t put it down. That’s how I know a book is fantabulous.

What I Loved?
-That through the entire book I just kept thinking to myself, WOW, Tilly has so improved in her writing, story telling, everything. I love seeing that from authors!

4.0 out of 5 stars Romance in ROMA 12 March 2017

“…the eternal city – eternally present and eternally busy”

The ink is hardly dry on 30 year old Kate’s divorce papers as she heads to Rome for a bit of a break. She shares a taxi into the city with gorgeous Jamie – it’s ok, though, it turns out he is gay so will not be making any moves on her – and they share dinner together. A hiccup that evening sees her drinking too much and falling asleep on the Spanish Steps, but policeman Alessandro soon assists her back to base.

Having her purse lifted out of her handbag at the Colosseum the next day, a sadly common experience for many tourists, she happens upon this rather sexy policeman once again. This of course is not the last time they meet and she soon finds herself in Alessandro’s company at St Peter’s Basilica and much, much more…. As a dab hand at dress making, she is also invited into the bosom of his family to make a few alterations to his sister’s wedding dress, a vexing situation all round. But being in the heart of a typical Italian family, even eating delicious dishes made of lentils (yes, really, they are yummy!), all begin to sow the seed of a possible life in Rome….

Meanwhile things between her and Jamie get sorted and they soon progress to being good friends. A “phew” development as he proves to be good listener and enabler.

But her sisters are concerned that she is in a vulnerable place, so soon after her marriage break up. Anna in particular shows her concern in an overbearing way, it is done out of love of course, but nevertheless is intrusive and stifling. And there is mum who is as needy as any little child. And, so with a family trauma happening out of the blue, she returns to her family, with a heavy but loyal heart, from her wonderfully romantic sojourn in the Eternal City. Her ex husband isn’t making life easy for her either, trying to inveigle himself back into her life; her confidence dwindling, does she have the courage to leave everything she knows behind her in England to start a new life with someone whom she has only known for a week? Can love conquer all? Enjoy the twists and turns of romantic adventures, as exciting as any ride on the back of Alessandro’s Vespa.

4.0 out of 5 stars So fluffy and romantic, it'll give you a cavity 10 March 2017

I'm fully in love with this story and Alessandro is my new book boyfriend. 🇮🇹❤️🇮🇹❤️

I read this around New Year's Eve, 2016, and it was just what I needed to end the year on a positive note. It's such a fluffy, romantic read, it'll give you a cavity. It also had me longing to go back to Italy and explore again all the areas mentioned in the book.

After being left by her husband, Matt on Friday 13th, Kate decides to go to Rome, Italy, for a much needed vacation to get her life back together. On her first day there, she shares a taxi with Jamie, a friendly American (Kate's British), who instantly becomes her best friend (I should also mention he's gay, so he's not a love interest). Also on her first night, she falls asleep, drunk, on the Spanish Steps, and that is how she first meets Alessandro, who is a policeman. She meets him again the next day when she goes to the police station to report the theft of her purse. From there you could say they have a whirl wind romance.

What I loved most was how non-angsty it was. It is as advertised - an uplifting romance. (It should also come with the warning "this book will give you travelitis - read with caution").

*I was given an arc copy via Netgalley from Bookouture. Thank you!

3.0 out of 5 stars Not Quite What I Expected... 19 March 2017

But it was still a good read. I did think there was going to be a little more comedy in the story, but it's really just a love story. However, it did make me feel involved enough to read it in a day. Could have done with a little more conflict towards the end as it felt a bit pedestrian, but very well written.

With the write-up on this book I expected to feel like I'd been to Rome. I expected the romance to hold my interest. Her being a seamstress should have added to a story in Rome. This book didn't hold my attention.

A delightful romantic story set in England and Rome, just for those of us who are unable to travel to Rome ourselves.
