Product Description

Starseer, pilot, and animal lover Jelena Marchenko wants to prove to her parents that she’s ready to captain her own freighter and help run the family business. When she finally talks them into getting a second ship and letting her fly it, it doesn’t faze her that the craft is decades old and looks like a turtle. This is the chance she’s craved for years.

But it’s not long before the opportunity to rescue mistreated lab animals lures her from her parentally approved cargo run and embroils her in a battle between warring corporations. To further complicate matters, her childhood friend Thorian, prince of the now defunct Sarellian Empire, is in trouble with Alliance law and needs her help.

Torn between her duty to her family and doing what she believes is honorable, Jelena is about to learn that right and wrong are never as simple as they appear and that following your heart can get you killed.

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

When I heard that Lindsay was writing a spin-off series for her Fallen Empire series I was so excited. The Rogue Prince takes place 10 years after from where the Fallen Empire series finishes and we get to see Jelena all grown up (if you can really consider 18 years old all grown up) and on her maiden voyage as captain of her own ship... on a trial basis.
Jelena truly takes after her mother in her way of thinking, flying skills, 'creative' thinking but in a more 'childish' manner (it's not that she acts like a kid but more that she doesn't think through her decisions, nor does she really look at the bigger picture - so basically a typical 18 year old). What I love about starting with a character so young is you really get to see them mature and grow, as well as develop as a character. I love the interactions between Erick and Jelena, they have a similar vibe between them that Alisa and Mica have, but Erick is not as pessimistic, which is a nice point of difference.
Thorian has became a much more interesting character and it'll be interesting to see how he changes and develops over the series. I would absolutely love to know what is going on in his head, especially when he is around Jelena, and I can't wait to see how Jelena changes him. I can't wait to find out more about why he is on the path he is, and why he made the decisions he has.
It will be interesting to see what kind of crew Jelena puts together as the series continues, and I can't wait to get some more glimpses of Alisa, Leonidas and the twins.

I chose this rating because the book started quite slowly, which l get bored with so l nearly put it down. But because l had enjoyed Lindsay's work in Fallen Empire l continued. Glad l did , the humour had me chuckling and though l found the detail a bit tedious at times, it was still overall an enjoyable read. I have now got on my reader the next two books so we will see where the adventurous young Jelena and dark and serious Thor takes me. Ta .

Look, every thing Lindsay Buroker writers is a thoroughly enjoyable ride. Her storytelling is immersive, and I am looking forward to reading the rest of this series (I've read book 2 and 3).

I would recommend reading her Fallen Empire series first - while you don't have to, it gives more context to the characters, and makes for a fuller experience of the world. Plus they're all very good books too.

While I enjoyed the series that preceded this one more than 'The Rogue Prince,' Lindsay Buroker's writing is a consistently enjoyable read.

A great read especially for those familiar with the Fallen Empire characters. Following Jelena and her crew through their universe getting into all sorts of trouble!

Started reading but when their first job was rescuing animals used in experiments lost interest. Deal with that in real life not in fiction.
