FROM THE #1 INTERNATIONAL BESTSELLING AUTHOR OF HOLY ISLAND AND IMPOSTOR
FROM THE SHADOWS INTO THE LIGHT…
When a fishing boat is wrecked off the treacherous North Sea coast and the body of a young woman washes up on the beach beside the iconic ‘Marsden Rock’, DCI Ryan cannot ignore the call to duty.
With one already dead and more human cargo missing from the wreckage, Ryan and his team race to find the remaining souls — before it’s too late, and their investigation turns to murder. As they uncover the seedy underbelly of Tyneside, cold and calculated opportunism clashes with the rock-hard arm of the Law, but there’s one thing that proves stronger than stone…
The human spirit.
Murder and mystery are peppered with romance and humour in this fast-paced crime whodunnit set amidst the spectacular North Eastern landscape.

As always L.J. Ross makes a superb story with her wonderful characters that I have often had to remind myself are not real - but they could be, there are decent people in the world and so in a way I like of think of them as real.
This story moves quickly and covers a lot of space in a very sort time - or it seems that way to me as I sat and read it from beginning to end today and I know it's going to stay with me for some time to come.
It is authors like L.J. Ross who have the ability to bring home to us just how much evil goes on in the world, in things that are not big news - not like world wars or awful pandemics, these are ordinary people going about their lives not ever expecting bad things to happen and when they do they suffer not only all the pain and agony of losing loved ones, but also the shock of learning how easy it is for bad things to happen unless we keep reading and learning from those of us who, in deep disguise, entertain us with wonderful stories, telling us truths in a way we can learn to accept them.
I'm sure there will be more stories from L.J. Ross and I look forward to them.

The story itself had potential, but the first half was like a slushy Mills & Boon with all the Valentine Day rubbish .Can't believe any Police Force would allow two loved up couples to work in the same team ,and do we really need to be constantly reminded of Perfect Anna and how wonderful a life she and Ryan have.
Really disappointed the way this series has gone down hill.I couldn't get enough of this series ,but sadly after about 10 books,it began to lose its appeal.Sometimes a series outruns it's potential, and I have run out of patience ,and am tired of wasting money on this series.
However, I am finding the overly idealistic romantic relationships between the main characters to be quite vomit inducing & I'm also sick of the reference of the pathologist looking like the Grim Reaper. EVERY SINGLE TIME!
The fact that the series has been downgraded from 'Crime Drama' to 'Cozy Mysteries' is indicative of this focus on the perfect romance & family life, instead of the actual crime & police work.
Still, it's much better than the St Cuthbert story!
