Although I enjoyed the rock chick series, this one was just okay for me. I know I'm going against the tide here, but I try to be honest with my reviews.
This novella just didn't really have the rock chick 'flavour' for me. And although Daisy and Marcus were fine as side characters in others' stories, for me they don't really stand up on their own as a focus for a whole story. Marcus is actually a pretty dodgy guy (although admittedly a hot alpha) and all of his money that he lavishes on Daisy was probably made in a very shady way. This was almost totally swept under the carpet in the novella. But it made me uncomfortable all the way through. Kind of similar to the concept of blood diamonds, on a smaller scale.
As for Daisy, her story was told so you could understand her sad past and her motivations, but as the main focus h she didn't work for me. Her choice of a (giant) boob job, her fashion sense (ouch!) and life as a stripper? Just, no. Yeah she was sweet and caring, but otherwise she had very little appeal as a character for me.
I found the end of the book to be overly sweet, almost sickening, like a super cheesy little kid's fairy tale. I wasn't invested enough in Marcus and Daisy to find it satisfying, I suppose. We did get a brief mention of some of the other rock chicks and their families, which was nice. But otherwise, I would have been happy if Ms Ashley had just left things as they were with the rock chicks living on in our imagination, and not bothered with this story.
But, there are lots of 5 star reviews already, so I'm probably in the minority here. Oh well. I'm happy to go back and reread the earlier books again if I want a rock chick fix in the future.
