This novella just didn't really have the rock chick 'flavour' for me. And although Daisy and Marcus were fine as side characters in others' stories, for me they don't really stand up on their own as a focus for a whole story. Marcus is actually a pretty dodgy guy (although admittedly a hot alpha) and all of his money that he lavishes on Daisy was probably made in a very shady way. This was almost totally swept under the carpet in the novella. But it made me uncomfortable all the way through. Kind of similar to the concept of blood diamonds, on a smaller scale.
As for Daisy, her story was told so you could understand her sad past and her motivations, but as the main focus h she didn't work for me. Her choice of a (giant) boob job, her fashion sense (ouch!) and life as a stripper? Just, no. Yeah she was sweet and caring, but otherwise she had very little appeal as a character for me.
I found the end of the book to be overly sweet, almost sickening, like a super cheesy little kid's fairy tale. I wasn't invested enough in Marcus and Daisy to find it satisfying, I suppose. We did get a brief mention of some of the other rock chicks and their families, which was nice. But otherwise, I would have been happy if Ms Ashley had just left things as they were with the rock chicks living on in our imagination, and not bothered with this story.
But, there are lots of 5 star reviews already, so I'm probably in the minority here. Oh well. I'm happy to go back and reread the earlier books again if I want a rock chick fix in the future.
A WORLD OF YES!
K-Ash knocked this right outta the sold out Rock Concert Stadium!
Daisy & Marcus's story is everything I'd expect it to be, everything I'd hoped it was going to be & everything it deserved to be.
I giggled, I shed tears, I sighed, I sobbed, I chuckled, I cheered, I swooned, I bawled like a baby & before my tears were dry, I was laughing joyously.
Yup, this was absolutely a Rock Chick book.
The epilogue was bittersweet - having had those few precious moments with all of them again felt like coming home to old friends - and then having to leave too soon.
Whelp, if I want to avoid this feeling & the massive book-hangover threatening, there's only one thing left to do: open a Fat Tire beer, put some cashews in a bowl & start rereading the series all over again!
Rock Chick - Chapter One...
I knew that I wanted Daisy and Marcus’s story but I didn’t realise how much until I got it. It’s the little things really. I wanted to know how Daisy became a stripper. How was it that such a sweet and beautiful lady came to be the headline act at Smithies?
I wanted to get into Marcus's head. I had a deep desire to know how Marcus felt about the way Daisy dressed, spoke and acted. Did Marcus fall for Daisy after seeing her on stage? Was it a matter of testing out her skills behind the scene and deciding to keep her (He's a rich man...she's a stripper, it's where my mind went)? Was Daisy hooked by a rich and good looking man who could build her a castle? These were all the things I had been thinking from the very first time we met Daisy in the Rock Chick series. What I got from Rock Chick Awakening was more, so much more.
What sort of life had Marcus led where someone like Daisy becomes his Princess? That probably seems a little judgemental but Daisy…well the Daisy we have come to love IS an ex-stripper. Yes, she has a heart of gold, but what makes a man who can have whoever or whatever he wants, choose a woman that gets paid to share her assets. A confident guy? Sure. A bloke who doesn’t judge a lady by the job she does? Yeppers. A man who sees she has skills but wants her to share them in a safe environment? Definitely. A hero who will do whatever it takes to see his woman protected and care for? Exactly!!
Marcus on paper is a bad guy, but I always found it hard to JUST call him a bad guy. This is a man that was portrayed to the reader as bad but always seemed to be doing good things. Marcus never hesitated to help when a Rock Chick was in strife.Read more ›
Daisy and Marcus' story is emotional, funny, sexy, romantic, full of love and also a bit of the bad guy getting what he deserves. Marcus has to work hard to get past Daisy's defences and when he does he gets the love of a good woman with an amazing heart. I cried tears of sadness and tears of happiness reading Rock Chick Reawakening. It was exactly what I wanted and I loved every single word.

And let's not forget Marcus, wow, always knew he was a perfect match for Daisy, but how he was in the story total cemented that fact! Now bring on Darius's story!
