There are many detailed reviews already written so to rehash the storyline is unnecessary.
I've come to re-read this book of late and quite obviously the tech side of the novel has not held up as tech knowledge comes on in real time so fast.
The other thing that struck as a little sad for Deaver is that TV has caught up with Dance and the whole science of 'reading' people either by body language or language use has been shown 'in action' on several series and that that in turn has made the written description of it in action much less interesting. (and not startling)
It needs to be seen and I wonder if Deaver recognised that and that is why this novel has such disperate and really nearly unconnected story lines.
It's worth a read but only just.

What a superb character Deaver has created. Subject to do the foibles and frailties we all labour under but forged on with an intensity and determination that makes teach twist and turn a July to uncover with her. This plus the addition of the surrounding cast makes Kathryn Dance one of the most fascinating and readable character yet encountered in the thriller genre. r

What s superb character Deaver has created. She is subject to the fancies, foibles and frailties we all recognise and labour under but has the fortitude and determination to forge through. With an engaging and real world supporting cast Kathryn Dance deserves to be in the top echelon of thriller characters. Move over Lincoln Rhyme, Sam Spade and Miss Marple.
