"I really didn't know what a tragicomedy was before reading this story, but seriously, there are no words that I have to even try to convey my feelings after finishing this book." - Jennifer Pierson: The Power of Three Readers

Rise and Fall Of A Poor Man is a tragicomedy inspired by real cases. It tells the story of a poor, nearly illiterate boy named Alexander Baum, who grew up in a street where crime and poverty went hand in hand and who one day, thanks to football, became a multimillionaire hero of the masses.

Alexander was too much of a restless spirit and could not handle all the money, fame, vanity and opportunists. His days were spent training, on team retreats, travelling, playing and doing commercials and photo shoots. His little free time was spent on luxury and extravagance, in the company of false friends and professional model Joanna Pasteur, with whom he married without first ascertaining whether she was trustworthy.

After a decade of great success came the end of his career, the loss of income, tax burdens and a divorce that cost him millions. A fatal combination that quickly ruined Alexander, who again had to fight for a dignified existence.

Will he be able to turn his life around? This book has a surprising ending!

5.0 out of 5 stars Spectacular book-thoughtful and provocative 28 April 2017

It tells the story of a poor boy who grew up in a street where crime and poverty went hand in hand and who one day, thanks to football, became a multimillionaire hero of the masses.
There are so many thought provoking quotes in this book. One of my favorites:
"I am awake at the window, looking out at my street. I am cold. I feel hungry. The day is coming on, and with it the most extreme poverty. This is the most painful image I keep inside me from my childhood. I can never forget it. That street, just over a mile long, was my whole world."
I would like to see for example Franck Ribery (who plays for German club Bayern Munich) talking about this this book. He grew up in a similar street.
It is the first book in a while that I kind of want immediately to read all over again.

4.0 out of 5 stars #VERYORIGINAL 21 April 2017
By Jennifer Pierson: The Power of Three Readers - Published on Amazon.com
Alexander Baum grew up as a very poor boy, living on a street where crime and poverty go hand in hand. But he had one thing, a talent for football, which had him becoming multimillionaire hero to the football world. However, he had a very restless spirit, which wasn't conducive in handling the money, and fame. He married Joanna Pasteur, a professional model, without really knowing that she was trustworthy, and ended up with a divorce that cost him millions. After a decade of brilliant success, he lost it all, which ruined him. Will the poor boy turned successful man, ever turn his life around? So, I really didn't know what a tragicomedy was before reading this story, but seriously, there are no words that I have to even try to convey my feelings after finishing this book. I know that it was inspired by real cases, so it definitely had a very realistic feel to it, which led me to wonder, how many actual football stars have gone down this path. As I'm a huge NFL fan so I know that they are out there, but I never really gave thought to their thinking after gaining so much quickly. John Rose showed me a talented writing style by keeping me reading even though I wasn't so invested in Alexander emotionally, not to mention how much thinking I did afterwards. I can say without a shadow of a doubt, that there aren't any books out there like this one, so I do encourage everyone to try this one out, (especially football fans), as I believe you will be as surprised as me. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
