Product Description

They call me 901. I am a monster, a killer, a champion. In the blood pit I am a god. I have no name, no family, and no identity. When master says fight, I fight . . . until I am the only one left standing. I have one goal, to fight so well that I am freed. I don't need friends, I don't need women. They are weaknesses. I am strong.

Until I see her. She is gorgeous and kind and off-limits to me. She was stolen as a child to be the worst type of slave and now master wants her. What he wants, he gets. With a smile, she melts my brutal heart. I have never wanted anything more.

I need to make a choice. Freedom or Love. I cannot choose wrong.

Riot by Tillie Cole is the fourth and final book in the Scarred Souls series and it has been an epic journey. Ms Cole writes evocatively, she makes you feel - it isn't a choice, she forces it out of you and like the other books in this series, it isn't pretty. This is the story of 152 and the man who truly loves her, 901. He's been in the Blood Pit for years and has become one of the highest ranking fighters for Master Arziani- the perverted, abhorrent crime boss who lusts after 152 and he always gets what he wants, until now.
If you have read the other books in this series, you understand that even with the overwhelming darkness in the story, it is also a story of love, healing and especially, rising above the destruction to return to the warmth of living. Riot is not a standalone book, you need to read the series from the beginning to appreciate Tillie Cole's ingenuity in creating such a compelling series, fraught with evil as well as gentle, wholesome characters; it is a dichotomy that she manages with skill as a writer.

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

2.5 Stars ~ Reviewed by Rachel & Sharon Thérèse

We both love this author’s writing; however, we’ve had to give her latest read careful thought before giving it our star rating. Taking into consideration the complexity of the plot, we both found Riot, the fourth book in the Scarred Souls series, a tad difficult to get our heads round. It’s quite a bit darker than what we’re used to reading by Ms Cole, and we’d even go as far as saying that some of the scenes were either disturbing or left us with a feeling of frustration. Chapter three is bursting with names from previous stories and caused some confusion, too. One of us was led to believe it could be read as a standalone; nonetheless, her buddy reader warned her that it would most probably be an uneasy ride.

We made no mistake in thinking this story wouldn’t be overflowing with raw grittiness. It was made apparent from the very first chapter where the male protagonist is, what he’s up against, why he’s there and who’s been holding him in a hellhole with no escape. More importantly, the reason he’s still alive is clearly described. The reader discovers 901 is an invincible killing machine, has no recollection of his past or even his real name. His persona is moulded through no fault of his own, and here we have to say that his character development is par excellent. Regardless of the awfully harsh conditions he’s under; a couple of scenarios involving his self-felt thoughts and actions troubled us! That being said, we gave him the benefit of the doubt. As the story progressed, he showed us he was mentally capable of overcoming the worst and our opinion of him changed one hell of a lot.

We are back in the dark, twisted world of the Scarred Souls series, with more of 152, Inessa, and we are introduced to 901. This book carries on right where the 3rd book ended.

What a raw, heartbreaking, gritty story of forbidden love amongst the bloodshed that is this series.

I could feel the fear, the pain, the emotion leap off the page and crush around my heart like a vice. From the first word to the last, I was on an emotional rollercoaster as our slaves fought for each other, fought against the Master (who is just pure evil), fought for freedom.

I loved that we got the guys and their gals from the first 3 books. None of their stories has been easy, but Riot turned things up a few notches.

Ms Cole has quickly become a favourite author for my darker reads, and can't wait to see what she brings us next

This was a great ending to the Scarred Souls series bringing another HEA to these fabulous men and women. 152 and 901 is a little more gritty. We see the drugs they use on the women in this book and its not a nice experience. We have heard of these in the other books but this is the first time we actually know what the women on them go through.

Tillie does a great job bringing you into her books. We fight in the blood pit and feel every cut and every bit of spilled blood, the hate for the master is felt by the reader. Just like the rest of this series Riot is a page turner and if you have read the others you will love this one as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars 'You make me want to live' 7 March 2017
By Jo Fergus - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition
Inessa was taken from her bed in a Russia orphanage in the middle of the night by some creepy men called Wraiths. She was not alone however, her brother Valentin was taken too. Along with other children they were moved to Georgia and conditioned for a life at the Fight Pit. In this underground dungeon young girls are conditioned to be Monas and injected with drugs that elevates their sexual arousal in such a way the only way to relieve the pain is by mating with one of equally drugged filled pit fighters.

Nobody has a name down in the dungeon, they are all given a number that is tattooed on them for life. The years of being drugged daily has affected everyone who lives there in such a way that they have no recollection of their lives before living there. They don't even know their names. Inessa is known as 152. She is drugged and used for sexual gratification, sleeps and then goes through it again the next day.

Her daily life is disrupted when the Master of the fight pit, Arziani, chooses 152 to be his 'high mona.' The most revered female above all others. She has caught his eye and he wants to keep her for himself. Master is feared by everyone, he controls them with drugs and threats of death, he is a freaking psycho - to put it mildly! The last high mona died a very gruesome death so 152 is very careful not to do anything to incite his anger.

In the fight pit you fight to kill. Fight challenges are made by other gulags but there are three ultimate champions that reign supreme, they are all property of the Master. The pit bull champion of the fight pit is 901. No one has ever defeated him. Many men have lost their lives at his hands. This is starting to become a problem for Master as the spectators and challengers who come to watch have come to be entertained but 901 kills his fight partners in less than 10 seconds.

Master is determined to get tighter control on 901 and find some weakness and use it against him to get what he wants. This is why he gifts him with 152, his high mona.

'He was the most intimidating male I had ever encountered. And I was trapped in his cell. Completely alone. In the unwelcome company of a killer. And there was absolutely nothing I could do'

Meanwhile, back in New York Luka, Zaal and Valentin are hatching a plan. They need closure on their past and seek revenge on Master Arziani. They want to end his reign over Georgia and free the people from their slavery at the fight pit. For Valentin, this is even more personal. He made a promise to his sister Inessa to one day come back for her, he has no idea if she is still alive but he holds on to the hope that he can fulfil the promise he made to her.

This is very much Inessa's story but she also shares the pages with Luka, Zaal & Valentin. I did not expect to feel so emotional but the tears fell down my face nonetheless. So now that I have set the scene, you need to 1-click this book and buckle in for the ride. This was a thrilling, page turning conclusion to the Scarred Souls series. A tale of redemption, love and loyalty

"You have made me feel, in here. You have made me want things I never dare let myself want. You have made me want to fight for survival, not pride. I no longer want to die on the pit' sand, like a warrior. I no longer want to die at all." I held my breath, exhaling only when he said, "You make me want to live."
5.0 out of 5 stars Spartacus for the modern age! Thrilling read!! 10 March 2017
By Kindle Konvert - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition
Good Lord! I got this novel having heard of the series but never read it, so I didn’t realise that it was, in fact, the finale to the series. It can be read as a standalone but probably best read in order, so I’ll definitely be backtracking to read the previous novels very soon.

This was an ABSOLUTELY THRILLING read!! It’s Spartacus and Gladiator (incidentally, my favourite film) rolled into one for the modern age.

It’s brutal, harsh, and horrifically violent, but a true love story of forbidden passion! The wonders of first love and the tenderness juxtaposed next to the violence made it all stand out in stark relief. God, I just LOVED it!

“I owned this sand.
I owned every soul freed in this ring.
“In the Blood Pit, I was god.”

901 is the Master’s champion - the famed Russian Pit Bull of the Arziani Blood Pit. Fierce, cold and unbeatable. He keeps himself closed off, aloof and uncaring. A warrior of warriors.

“I was a mona. A slave used for her body, to give males pleasure whenever they wished.”

152 is the Master’s new personal whore – the High Mona. Beautiful, submissive and coveted. A modern-day Helen of Troy.

“I do want you…but I just can’t let you have me…it’ll make me weak.”

The evil, despicable Master Arziani is determined to break 901’s defiance. When he sees 901 eyeing his new High Mona, he forces her presence on him. Locked together in a cell, and 152 injected with a drug that sends her libido soaring, and the only thing to alleviate the pain is the physical release of a male inside her. In spite of his jealousy and possessiveness over 152, Master is hell-bent on breaking his champion, finding his weakness so that he will bend to his will. What Master hadn’t counted on was the possibility that 152 might form an attachment for the champion.

Elsewhere in the world, plans are afoot to bring down Arziani’s blood-soaked empire and deliver freedom to those he has enslaved.

“You have made me feel, in here. You have made me want things I never dare let myself want. You have made me want to fight for survival, not pride. I no longer want to die on the pit’s sand, like a warrior. I no longer want to die at all…You make me want to live.”

This was such an EXCITING read! It showcased all the feels – agony, fear, hate, fury, passion, love. The author really brought it all to life like an epic movie. I could feel the tension, the roar of the crowd, the gritty sand beneath my feet. It’s heart-pumping stuff! Then you have the romance. Two people who have been conditioned as slaves since children, constantly drugged, not knowing what that funny feeling they get in their chests is.They had been exposed to so much brutality and cruelty that any kindness or happiness is completely alien to them. I adored their tender words to each other and the absolute wonder of finding beauty in the ugly prison of their lives. Top Read 2017.
4.0 out of 5 stars When you think you've seen it all.. 12 March 2017

Only Tillie Cole can make you fall in love with her damaged characters over and over again, still leaving you begging for more!

'Save the best for the last', that saying feels right with Ms. Cole’s latest and final addition to the Scarred Souls series. Riot was by far the best story in this series. It was darker, grittier, and pumped with a heavy load of angst.

Scarred Souls series revolves around the mafias, violence, power and absolute domination. Child abduction, imprisonment, human trafficking, experimental drugs, trained killers, and forced prostitution remains the main theme. When you think, you’ve seen it all Ms. Cole hits you with Riot; the story of not one but two prisoners, abducted when they were kids, now they are just entities for Master Arziani’s sadistic and twisted entertainment.

901 is the most feared and powerful fighter in the blood pit, all his life he was under the influence of a drug, trained to be a perfect killer. In his empire, where everyone lived in fear, 901 became an undefeated champion, master’s priced possession. When everyone else was stripped of their identity, free will and happiness, 901 held onto his pride; pride as a warrior, pride of refusing to bend to master’s will knowing very well his dismissal would be master’s greatest loss.

Master Arziani is a sadist through and through, he doesn’t just inflict pain on his slaves, he controls them with his mind games. 901 is what makes his Blood Pit flowing with money but his lack of submission questions Master's authority. He gives away his slave 152, high mona meant for pleasure as a gift to 901. If 901 can’t be controlled by any other means, having a leverage would be a game changer.

152 wakes up in a hazy state, she has no memory of who she is or where she is but a distant face of a young boy, a voice in her head keeps telling her to hold on a little while longer, that he will get her out of this hell. Once a slave to the mistress her beauty beholds the eye of Master Arziani. She is soon called to Georgia to be his high mona, meant for his twisted pleasure. Day in and day out she is used and abused, same routine every day and the hope of being rescued slowly fades away until one night she is locked up in a cell with 901

Riot wasn’t an easy read, it was dark to the point where certain situation leaves your stomach in knots. It was edgy, suspenseful and the anticipation of what’s going to happen is heart-numbingly palpable. All I can say is, this is a perfect ending to the series, beyond the darkness and disturbing events Ms. Cole still managed to add the essence of love, healing, and happiness.

I loved the ending, there is a sense of peace to see all the main characters under one roof, living as a family. The author always seems to have a cure for all the heartache she made us endure and I love her for that!

A phenomenal writer and a master storyteller indeed!
