Dr Tom Christie's awesome 600-page publication leaves the reader in no doubt that his research into the many Christmas-related films of the Eighties has left no snowflake unturned. Indeed, he has used his intellectual snow-plough to reveal the essential facts behind the many films of that era - and digging deeply into the drifts, too.
His knowledge of all things "films" is exposed in this well-constructed book. It's not just a piece of reference, but also one of nostalgia: mental replay of pleasurable evenings at the movies, or simply watching the telly "en famille".
But the more serious element of Dr Christie's work are all the cross-referenced facts behind these wonderful films. Essential material for the serious researcher... but great fun to read by the inquisitive reader (like me) who played the immaginary extra part in some of the Eighties' Christmas movies.
