I know the rules.
I repeat them endlessly in my head.
But damn it, I can't stay away.
Can't stop thinking about it. About her.

She's perfect. Beautiful. Exceptional in every way.
When in the world did she grow up?
No! I refuse to touch her. I won't do it.
But I did. Just once.
And now. I want more. So much more.
Once I've set my mind to something, nobody can stop me.
Not even him. Screw him.
He's just my best friend.
She's just his little sister.

Rules are meant to be bent.
Broken. Hell, rewritten.
How bad can it be?

It’s a tale that we’ve all heard a time or two. Crushing on your brother’s hot best friend. The forbidden fruit. And even though we know the story, I like to see what different authors can do to make their story an original. Unfortunately, I can say that this tale fell a little flat for me.

We start off with Charlotte. She’s the little sister of Will. They tragically lose their parents to a motor vehicle accident. So Will gives up a part of his late teenage/early twenties years to help take care of Charlotte. Charlotte has had a crush on her big brother’s best friend, Troy, since she was sixteen. Charlotte and Troy have been sneaking intimate moments together but they are both too afraid to admit their feelings to Will for fear that he would break them up. Instead they pretend that ‘they’ don’t exist and let Will be ignorant to their relationship. Troy and Will go off to college and leave Charlotte to fend for herself. Will pushes Charlotte towards a friend of his to help keep an eye on her while he’s away.

Contact is lost between Charlotte and Troy and after 4 years, Charlotte still thinks about Troy all the time. But it’s difficult to have a relationship that’s hidden when one person lives in Michigan and the other in New York. And after all this time, Charlotte finally decides that she wants to risk it all and go after Troy, so she moves to New York to be next to her brother and Troy.

I understand why Troy was standoffish to Charlotte when she first showed up. I mean, it’s been four years! But afterwards, Troy’s hot and cold behavior was super annoying and then out of the blue he seems to have an epiphany and decides to take a chance with Charlotte again. What? I was certainly put off by Troy’s behavior. After a few days of dealing with that crap I would have decided that he definitely was not worth it.

All in all the book was an okay read and I did read it all the way through but I was hoping that the author would have made Troy a little more desirable. He wasn’t a sexy a--hole kind of douche. He was just a regular douchey douche. Well, there’s someone for everyone I guess.

Happy Reading!!

5.0 out of 5 stars I love a second chance romance!! 12 April 2016

I really enjoyed Rewriting the Rules by S. Moose. This book has 2 of my favorite types of books rolled into one- forbidden romance and second chance romance. It's the forbidden best friends little sister and a second chance romance that never really had a chance to truly begin.

Troy and Charlotte were secretly in love with each other since they were just teenagers. The problem is that Troy is Charlotte's brothers best friend. Will gave up his dreams to help raise Charlotte after their parents were killed. All Charlotte has ever wanted to do is make Will proud and not disappoint him. So they decided to wait until she turned 18 to let Will know about the relationship. Things don't ever turn out how they're supposed to and Charlotte and Troy were separated. Troy was left heartbroken when Charlotte entered into a relationship with someone her brother wanted her to. Years later Charlotte can no longer be in a relationship with someone she's not in love with and she decides to go to be with her brother and get Troy back. Things get complicated and you will want to scream and pull out your hair at times. I love that this relationship wasn't made easy. Charlotte didn't get to just come back and Troy fall at her feet. Troy was hurt and he was quite frankly an ass. There were times I wanted to choke him and tell Charlotte to just give up. But as big of a jerk as Troy came across, he was also tender, loving and sweet. Another thing I loved about this book is the secondary character development. I can see another book in the future!

2.5 for me

This was a hard read me. I just could never really get into this book. I think for me the pace was just too fast and the story felt rushed. It seemed as if we were barely finishing one scene before jumping into the next. I also felt like the characters were immature and because of that I never connected with Charlotte and Troy. If I don't connect in some way with the characters then the book ends up not being enjoyable for me.
I think that they spend entirely too much time worrying about what Will will say or do. It became annoying to me because they both kept going back and forth between " I want you" and "we can't be together". When they finally did get together it's a big secret and then they go back and forth between needing to tell Will to we'll tell him when the time is right. When Will did finally find out about the relationship it was very anticlimactic and I felt all that time worrying was for nothing.

I kept hoping that something would happen in the story to make it a better read for me but it never does and i just could never fully get into the story. It wasn't for me.

I was given an ARC of this book for an honest review.

4.0 out of 5 stars Second Chance & Friends to Lovers Romance! 18 March 2016
By Escape Reality with Books - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition
If second chance stories and friends to lovers stories are your forte, then you will love this new one from S Moose.

Troy has been in love with his best friend’s little sister for years. They had one time together and then they were separated for several years which was hard on both of them but they had both moved onto to other partners. It’s when Cahrlotte’s current partner proposes, she realises that she still is in love with Troy and no one will ever compare to him and she sets out to where he is current living with the hopes of reconciliation.

Troy is very angry though and puts most of the blame of her for what happened between them. He doesn’t makes things easy for her and acts pretty much like a d*** to her.

Their story is not about reconnecting and bang, they are back together. It’s slow and steady before we see any action between them and the buildup adds a good depth to their story.

I hope the other characters get their own stories as well.

I was given a complimentary copy in exchange for an honest review.

4 Sweet and Sassy Stars

When I received an ARC for Rewriting the Rules, I was excited. I'd never read any of S. Moose's work and the book looked and sounded fantastic! It's a forbidden romance, which I love! I wasn't wrong to be excited. There was so much in this book that I loved and enjoyed. It was sweet, sexy and heartbreaking at the same time.

Troy is the best friend of Will. Charlotte's big brother, her protector. Troy has sworn off ever settling down with a woman. He isn't your typical run through every woman, slam bam leave em kinda guy though. He's honest and loyal. He writes his own rules when it comes to relationships. Troy stays in meaningless relationships, not having feelings for any of the girls even if they fall head over heels for them.

"I have rules and a code I live by. This way of life is what keeps me from getting hurt. A broken heart is a b**ch to deal with."

Charlotte is a sexy, smart, independent girl. Her only downfall, her brother. She lets him dictate her life in the way of, she doesn't want to disappoint him so she'll do whatever he thinks she should be doing…..including staying with a man she doesn't love. Why? Because Will gave up a lot for her, in order for her to have a good life.

I absolutely adored the banter between Charlotte and her friends, Jessica and Aubree. It had me laughing at times which was a much needed relief from some of the other things going on in the book!

Troy and Charlotte's story will take you on an emotional ride. When Charlotte breezes into town without telling anyone she's coming, Troy is thrown for a loop! He doesn't know what to do or how to act. He doesn't want to let Charlotte get close, doesn't want to let her back in. He keeps his walls high and his heart guarded.

"I'm a different person. I'm a man; a cold man, with no desire to have a happily ever after with her. Love doesn't exist. Not even with Charlotte."

This story will take you on a whirlwind of a ride. You know they want each other, but they're scared, both for the same reasons, but neither one knows it. Rewriting the Rules is a sweet, loving story that will leave you wanting more. I enjoyed reading this, turning page after page to see what S. Moose would have happen next. I truly enjoyed being in Charlotte and Troys world and I was rooting for them 100% the whole time! I wanted to reach in the book and shake them both! I wanted to yell at them to JUST TALK IT OUT ALREADY!....but of course if it just happens like that there wouldn't be a story would there? ….and I'm so glad there was one! I can't wait to see what S. Moose delivers next! (I'm secretly hoping for Will's story ehem..)

"Love is like air. We know it's there, and we know we need it. Some of us need to go through hell to realize what's been in front of us for so long."
