About the Author

Although this is not a relationship I would want (Percy finally comes into his own xx), it's still written with unfailing humour, adventure and cuteness. You can never go wrong with this author! :) 4th in this particular series BTW, you don't have to read the first three but makes it much more fun.

Enjoyed all the books in both series. The storylines are fun and funny. Poor editing means frequent errors and unfortunately every so often the author forgets what has been said about characters previously, so a willingness to overlook occassional inconsistency and error is needed. Otherwise most enjoyable.

This book was a fun action packed adventure, full of sarcastic comments, witty dialogue and improbable situations. It rounded off the series in a satisfactory and thoroughly enjoyable conclusion.Highly recommend

Wonderful finale for this series. As always Gail Carriger has brought wit, heart and adventure in spades. Just wonderful.

Great end to the Custard series
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 9 August 2019Verified Purchase
I always look forward to a new book in the Parasolverse, and Carriger never fails to deliver something great.
This time on the romance block it's Percy, who, I admit, I had been digging as ace or aro (and whom I continue to dig as aspec), so it was gonna take someone special to capture his heart, and mine on his behalf.
Well, Arsenic (just take a beat to love that name) did the trick from page one. She's a perfect fit for the family of misfits aboard the Custard: quick, smart, an oddity to society, unwilling to judge others, and a big heart coupled with a laid back acceptance of whatever is happening around her.
She's a great match for Percy, if he could only move past his lack of experience and actually get with the kissing!
The rest of the book is, as expected, ridiculous and fun. Floating cities, more new shapeshifters, tassles, fainting vampire queens, Akeldama being...well, Akeldama.
Carriger shows, as always, that she can write books set in the past (albeit a steampunk version of it) whilst refusing to cis-, het- and whitewash everything in it. Each oddball is written with love, care and respect, and I look forward to this in any new works as much as I look forward to the stories themselves.
All in all, another favourite for the reread list! And I can't wait for the next.

A stunning and satisfying conclusion to the Custard Protocol
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 8 August 2019Verified Purchase
A stunning and satisfying conclusion to the Custard Protocol (and, indeed, the Parasol Protectorate world). All tied up in a bow!
I did notice a small number of possible typos, but it’s possible that they are just the language used at that time - I really wouldn’t know! They don’t detract from the enjoyment of the excellent story, so a very minor niggle really.
I can’t really say too much more without spoilers, but I love being in Percy’s head, I want to be Arsenic, and Spoo is great! Lots of old favourites and future characters popping up to say hi. A satisfying adventure and rescue. Politeness, fisticuffs and tea. Everything we love and expect from a Gail Carriger.
Highly recommended. I’d give more than 5 out of 5 stars if I could.

A fab book but GUTTED it's the last one!!
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 18 August 2019Verified Purchase
This is the fourth and final book in the Custard Protocol series, and I LOVED it! Percy may finally find love, with the daughter of Presha (from Finishing School books and Poison & Protect, for Carriger fans!) Dr Arsenic Ruthven, and the crew take on another adventure trip to Japan, while also looking to rescue an agent from the Parasol Protectorate, and maybe discover another new type of shifter as well! It's a great story that I highly recommend to all fans of the series and Gail Carriger's work - we see lots of characters from her other series popping up too - but I'm so disappointed it's the last book! I just hope that whatever comes next is just as good, if not better.. which is entirely possible with Gail at the creative helm!

Extraordinary Adventures and marvelous characters

It was so good to get the audio version of this book at last, I had read it in ebook format but as I have the rest of the series in audio and the previous two series also this was a gap that needed filling. I'm happy its now available around the world.
This is the last book in the 4 part Custard Protocol series, a steam punk extravaganza where a group of characters travel the world. It will make more sense if you read the others first as there are character developments and storyline that flow through them all.
This series follows on from the Finishing School series, and Soulless series both of which are brilliant but can be read separately and characters from each appear in this series and a lot show up in this book. You don't have to read those first but it feels so good to meet up with these wonderful friends.
