Product Description

Anniversaries are usually occasions worth celebrating, but when your fourth wedding anniversary is also the first anniversary of your husband’s death, you’ll only want to drink your sorrows away. And that’s exactly what Phoenix Nightingale does.
In the small town of Breckshire Wyoming, everybody knows everybody, so when Evan Tyler walks into the same bar she’s drowning her grief in, Phoenix knows that he’s new in town. What she doesn’t know is that he’s just moved in a few houses down from her and is about to try his hardest to break through the wall she’s had up for a year.
Phoenix has experienced a tragedy that nobody ever wants to experience. In the year following her husband’s death, she’s had what her parent’s considered embarrassing public meltdowns, and lost some friends along with her career. Just as she feels she’s at her very lowest, Evan barges into her life, forcing her to get out of the house and look at life a little differently.
He vows to help her, encouraging her to rise from the ashes and live once again. Evan doesn’t know that just by being in her life, he’s bound to send her into a tailspin, because both of them are keeping things from each other, and Phoenix may not be strong enough to handle what she finds out.
Will she pull him into the dark with her, or will he be able to resurrect Phoenix, freeing her from the depths of her depression, and show her that surviving isn’t the same as living?

This is definitely not your normal Isabel Lucero book but it was still wonderful. I love when an author can show different sides in their writing style.

This books shows the struggles that someone can go through when they lose someone they love. How deep it can go and how you need help so you don't get sucked into the darkness. This book is an eye opener and it will even make you cry. Don't worry because it is totally worth it. I highly recommend this book.

I was given an arc for an honest review.

4.0 out of 5 stars Love and second chances 23 October 2015
By Christina - Published on

When Phoenix loses her husband unexpectedly she also loses any sense of self. Finding solace in a bottle of vodka, she is stuck in a job she hates and has alienated nearly every other friend she has. So when she meets her new neighbor Evan, they soon strike up a friendship that soon finds them both healing from their pasts. As they continue to grow closer it becomes evident that there are mutual feelings of far more than friendship, but is Phoenix ready to move on and finally put the memory of her late husband to rest? Or will Evan’s troubled past and Phoenix’s battle with the bottle get the best of them? It might all be for naught when Evan drops a bombshell of his own…

Resurrecting Phoenix is a touching, life-affirming story of love and second chances. Both of the main characters are easy to relate to; Phoenix’s pain is palpable and the hope that Evan brings to her is readily apparent. While there were some predictable points in the plot it is a very enjoyable read that is easy to get wrapped up in from the beginning. The difficult subject matter of addiction is gently handled and as the author says, this could easily be anyone’s story.
5.0 out of 5 stars you enjoy, but after some time and many other books 1 December 2016

Sometimes there are books that you read, you enjoy, but after some time and many other books, you forget… sometimes there are books you read, you are impressed, but still, after time, you forget those too. Isabel Lucero writes her books with a passion that not every author has. It is this fire you can feel behind her words, she holds you captive till the very last sentence and you feel every emotion she tries to invoke. I have read books by many authors, and of course like many of you, I do have my favorites. Isabel will always be one of my favorites; I have loved her writing from the very first book I read by her (The Secrets That We Keep, which is still one of my favorites – and one of my very first reviews – pre blog life). If you have not read an Isabel Lucero book, I am telling you as a reader, you are missing out.
Resurrecting Phoenix is romance that deals with love, loss, and the rebuilding of life in the aftermath. It is a simple story about realistic people and a tragedy that can happen to anyone of us. I think the reason I felt so connected to this story is because the characters are so relatable, so real, and so very honest. Phoenix is a character that is weak, but very very strong. Her story is devastating and beautiful all at the same time. I don’t want to give anything away about the story in my review because I feel like everyone should experience this book like I did, without any suspicions of what will come.
If you are ready to take an emotional ride with ups and downs that will give you hope in love, this is one for you. Isabel knocked it out of the park with this story, I thought she was a brilliant writer before, but she just proved, it’s only going to get better; she is one to watch out for!

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved it! 9 October 2015

Ok, so when you read in a review that a book is emotional take them for their word because this book is definitely emotional. I cried, a lot! It is written well and the characters are well developed. The topics of substance abuse and depression are major throughout the book and ones I’m glad the author brings up. So many people judge others who have substance abuse problems and depression without understanding why or how they came to be where they are. Not everyone’s journey is the same and we should be supportive of one another. This story is about loss, substance abuse, heartache, depression, forgiveness, finding new love and reclaiming her life. No cliffhanger in this book. I recommend reading Resurrecting Phoenix. Even though it made me cry I still loved it.
4.0 out of 5 stars Emotional 1 October 2015

Resurrecting Phoenix was an emotional read from start to finish! I lost my breath several times while reading and my tears flowed matching those shed by Phoenix. I believe deep in my heart Phoenix's story of resurrecting could be the story of many people throughout the world. Isabel Lucero tells this story compassionately and with great tenderness.
My heart both broke and ached for Phoenix, and I was happy the author wrote such an awesome cast of supporting characters to support Phoenix on her journey. From the very first meeting, Evan stole my heart. He was strong, understanding, accepting, patient, kind and flat out perfect for Phoenix. Isabel Lucero could not have written a better match for Phoenix. Evan was the uplifting spirit Phoenix so desperately needed in her life. Watching their relationship grow was both gratifying and satisfying.
Upon reading the final word in Resurrecting Phoenix, I was happily crying and feeling deeply satisfied. I was overjoyed Phoenix rose from the ashes whole and ready to live her life with promise and love.
Thank you Isabel Lucero for writing an inspiring story which speaks to the hearts and minds of many, many people.

5.0 out of 5 stars Rise from the ashes and experience Resurrecting Phoenix! 23 October 2015

This book was just....Everything. Grief, anger, guilt, addiction and the strength to push through and come out on the other side, with a little help from an unexpected neighbor.

Phoenix has experienced tragedy like no one should. Losing a loved one is hard. On a special day? EVEN harder. You fall into a pit of despair. The pit seems huge and ever lasting until an adorable, cute, caring and very persistent neighbor named Evan comes along.

I really loved this story. Phoenix and Evan are amazing characters. This story proves that no matter how dark the day looks, there is always a bright side at the other end. It is just how you get there or rather who helps you get there makes it all worth while.
