Ava is such a sweetheart. She is kind and is not your typical rich daddy’s daughter. She works hard to fulfil her dreams. One of her dreams was to be forever and ever with Ethan. Her best friend, her lover and her soul mate. Until she was diagnosed with cancer and all her world collapsed. Her dreams were shattered, when the one who made her fight to stay alive, left her. Even though she won the battle with cancer, she has lost him. We meet her in present time when she returns from her 2 years adventure in Europe, where she was sightseeing and gathering knowledge about European Culture. She thinks she was able to move on and forget Ethan, but only one word from him, simple “Hi” made her shiver and caused all feelings, memories and emotions to come back.
The story is beautiful way of showing about second chances and how hard it is on those, who are sick and also the ones that are around people who are slowly dying.
I loved how Fabiola showed Ethan persistence to prove Ava that he has changed and he is no longer that stupid, 21 year old boy, who was afraid. And she beautifully shows the power of forgiveness.
On the other hand, not only main characters are amazingly build. But side characters, Katie, Dan, Jess and Aiden are well developed and strong characters in the story and without them, it would be just another ugly cry book. But thanks to them you have also times when you can’t stop laughing.
Beautiful story and it well deserves 5 stars in my opinion.
I loved this book from start to finish.
I love the characters and the story.
I thought it was a good story. I read the reviews and I wondered how I was going to get over the H and his actions.
Two years ago: Both characters were 22 years old and have been dating for three years although they have known each other for ever since their mothers are best friends. The h was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. The H breaks up with the h because he did not want to watch her die. The h beats the cancer and goes off to Europe.
Present day: The h returns home from Europe. Both are still in love with each other. She has had no one else in her life. He, on the other hand, has become the city's man whore hoping to find solace with other women. He lives with regret every day because he left the h. The story follows the H's pursuit to reunite with the h knowing his battle will be a very difficult one. There are dual povs. When I read the blurb, I kept thinking how can the H ever redeem himself when he left his soulmate at the lowest point in their relationship? The h has the same recurring thoughts throughout the story...will he leave again if the cancer returns? He really never truly redeems himself in the story because the opportunity does not arise. However, you are privy to his inner thoughts and his discussions with the h and friends and family. He believes he would man up and not react the same way because he has matured and has experienced life without her. He knows that life with her even when she is sick for a short time is better than being without her.
The recurring theme is how much regret the H had in breaking his promise and leaving the h. His friends and family are on his side when the h returns and much of their discussions they have with the h centers on how miserable he was with his cowardly decision and why he spent two years as the city's biggest man whore. He does not defend his man whoring actions, but he does try to rationalize them to her. His friends actually rationalized his man whoring to the h which was kind of unusual. There are a lot of flashbacks of the two before the breakup.
Like I said before, he does not get an opportunity to show he has changed because she does not get sick again. However, I think that if you follow his inner thoughts you would believe that he had matured and would stand by her if she got sick again.
What would have made the story better was if he did something to show that he meant what he thought and said. Yes, he pursued her, told her he still loved her, he suffered for two years over his mistake, etc.... but I need more than words to show that he matured and was no longer scared.
