In 1996 Robin read a newspaper report about the alleged suicide of Victorian country housewife Jennifer Tanner. Guessing there might be a book in the ‘story behind the news’, she closed her PR business for a year and wrote a best seller, Blind Justice, now in its eighth reprint. She has written a bestseller almost every year since. During her career as an investigative writer she also obtained a private investigator’s licence. Some of the cases she was involved in inspired her novels, The Curse of the Golden Yo-Yo and Mystery of the Missing Masterpiece. Widely recognised as Australia’s foremost true crime writer, Robin is also a national convenor of Sisters in Crime Australia.

ROBIN BOWLES - WRITER AND INVESTIGATOR

In 1996 Robin read a newspaper report about the alleged suicide of Victorian country housewife Jennifer Tanner. Guessing there might be a book in the 'story behind the news' she closed her PR consultancy for a year and wrote her first book, Blind Justice (now in its eight reprint). She's written a best-seller almost every year since, including the definitive books on the Jaidyn Leskie murder, Justice Denied, and the disappearance and alleged murder of British tourist Peter Falconio, Dead Centre.

During her new career as an investigative writer, she also obtained a university diploma to qualify her as a private inquiry agent. Widely recognised as Australia's foremost true crime writer, she has also started writing fiction, with her first book released in 2007, The Curse of the Golden Yo Yo followed by The Mystery of the Missing Masterpiece. (See books). She is a national convenor of Sisters in Crime Australia and lives in a Melbourne warehouse with her husband, Clive.

This short story was too short. I realize that it was about a very sensitive subject but a few more details would have been nice. Did the father
Do that to any other girls?
Did the mother get charged for child abuse?
Was she aware, yet did nothing go about what was taking place in her own house?
Did the husband abuse the wife or make her submit to his s/m traits? So much more should have been included!!

I am a big Robin Bowles fan, but this is the first time I’ve read one of her shorts. Sad to say, I actually felt a bit cheated. The narrative wasn’t much more than an extended news article and had none of the usual insight into the case that Robin Bowles is renowned for.

[Note for publisher: This might be my Kindle, but the quote from the affidavit that starts at loc 177 shows up as one long 3-character column, which is almost impossible to read.]

The story is sad, but a great teaching tool for people in digital forensics and counselors like myself. I've dealt with hundreds of kids who have been abused and I can say that this book provides a great insight into the detection and rescuing defenseless children. I gave it only 4 stars because I wished it would have been written in more of a technical language concerning the software used. For the child involved, I hope and pray she has received the help she needs.
