Having watched the progress of the cover being designed and adjusted on a social meadia site, my interest was sparked on Rescue Her Heart. It had been a while since I had read any sci-fi story so I was interested to see what my more mature self thought about one now. I was pleasantly surprised that I found myself enjoying the genre again.
This is a simple story of a young woman, Catherine being rescued by an older butch space trooper Nat and them falling in love. Cathrine for the first time and in the process discovering she is gay. Nat, letting herself love and bing loved, having her heart rescued in fact. They have adventures in new worlds, thanks to some space pirates, who are more complex that first appearances suggest.
As a story set in the future, I was a little disappointed that there still appeared to be homophobic and misogynistic attitudes, even slavery. However, I see there was a need for conflict ( this is fiction after all) and frankly sometimes I think women’s rights are going backwards these days, so who sadly knows.
This is Ms Luck’s first outing as an author, there is some room for improvement and a bit more polish but a solid effort first up.
