This is the first book I have read by this author which came across while book surfacing and not into Christian romance it was free one weekend on kindle so downloaded same to try. Although a little preachy not overly so but a lovely love story which I could not put down. I have just download second in the series Redemption. Do give this series a chance you will really enjoy it such lovely love stories.

Er hat Schwierigkeiten mit seinem Selbstwertgefühl und glaubt, dass Kathryn zu gut für ihn ist, und er ihr nicht alles bieten kann, was sie verdient. Tatsächlich steht seine Ranch kurz vor dem Ruin, sodass er eines Tages zu einer Geschäftsreise aufbricht, die Abhilfe schaffen soll. Er gerät in eine Falle und erleidet schwere Verletzungen. Der Täter hält ihn für tot, tatsächlich überlebt Larson wie durch ein Wunder und wird von einer gottesfürchtigen Familie gesund gepflegt.

Als Larson nach Hause zurückkehrt, ist er körperlich durch schwere Verbrennungen gezeichnet und wird weder von seiner Frau noch von seinen Bekannten erkannt. Indes ist Kathryn guter Hoffnung und musste in ihrer finanziellen Not zu arbeiten beginnen, was für eine Frau ihrer Kreise im Jahre 1868 nicht üblich war. Larson will seine Frau von Neuem erobern, doch Kathryn ist hin und her gerissen zwischen ihrem Mann und dem "Fremden", zu dem sie sich zunehmend hingezogen fühlt.

Seit ich meinen Kindle habe, habe ich etliche christliche Storys gelesen, die in den USA im 19. Jahrhundert spielen, die mir aber nicht immer gefallen haben. Oft empfinde ich solche Geschichten als "predigend" und "moralisierend". Bei diesem Buch haben sich die Glaubensbekundungen jedoch natürlich angefühlt, so, als gehörten sie einfach zu den Protagonisten, und wirken nicht aufgesetzt. Haupt- und Nebenfiguren waren gut entwickelt und haben mir gut gefallen, die Storyline ist logisch und das Buch gut geschrieben.

Colorado, 1868: Die nicht so besonders glückliche Ehe von Kathryn und Larson wird durch einen Unfall (?) unterbrochen. Larson, der gerade auf einer Geschäftsreise ist, wird angeschossen und erleidet starke Verbrennungen. Dadurch ist sein Gesicht völlig verändert. Einige Monate wird er gesund gepflegt bei christlichen Leuten, die ihm einen neuen Zugang zu Jesus übermitteln. Er bekehrt sich und kommt mit einer "Jesus-Beziehung" zurück in seine Heimat. Dort glauben die Leute er sei tot und erkennen ihn nicht. Er findet seine Frau schwanger vor und glaubt nicht, dass er der Vater ist. Trotzdem will er sie erneut gewinnen. Ein Großgrundbesitzer versucht Kathryn das Land streitig zu machen. Sie verliert das finanzielle Gleichgewicht und muss arbeiten gehen. Kathryn glaubt in ihrem Herzen zu spüren, dass ihr Mann (, den sie trotz allem liebt) noch lebt, aber trotdem fühlt sie sich zu diesem vernarbten Mann, der viel gläubiger ist als ihr Ehemann, hingezogen.

Das Buch ist wunderbar zu lesen. Man kann mit den Hauptfiguren mitfühlen. Es ist ein bisschen wie ein schöner Traum.(;-))
