It's soooo Colleen Hoover in all her glory. Writing characters we want as our best friend, character traits we want to model ourselves on. Colleens words make my world better, they can make yours better too. I think I've just sighed for the millionth time because this ending was perfect. I'm off to buy Christmas presents now, but I'll be thinking of Clara and Miller all day, most likely all week and passibly all year. I might even stop reading for the rest of the year so this is the last book I read all year. What a way to finish. *sigh*
Stunning!!! Coho is a A+ writer who never disappoints me!!
Top international reviews
For a start, the few twists were very thinly disguised; it was clear from early on exactly where the narrative was going. Now normally, I wouldn’t take exception to that, in the same way I don’t mind getting on a train and knowing its destination. But what makes any journey special is the scenery along the way. And with ‘Regretting You’, I just got the sense I’d seen it all before.
Yes, I was moved by the predicament of mum Morgan and teenage daughter Clara, whose lives are thrown into a tailspin when husband/dad Chris dies in a car crash alongside his sister-in-law Jenny. I think Hoover does a fine job of exploring their grief, anger and confusion. I liked Clara’s boyfriend Miller a lot and easily identified with the ‘first love’ theme. And I enjoyed the tension and poignancy in Morgan’s relationship with Jonah, Jenny’s partner.
For someone like me, though, who regularly blubs when reading, there should have been enough tugging of the heartstrings in this to see me through a whole box of tissues. On the contrary, not a single tear was shed. And not because it wasn’t an emotional story; it was, in spades. It was just all a little too formulaic.
While I can see why diehard fans would love this book regardless, I believe that many, if they’re honest, would admit, like me, to being a tad disappointed. And there’s the problem: when authors set a high bar, there are bound to be times when they don’t quite hit the mark. And this, unfortunately, is one of them
Thanks for reading my review. I hope you found it helpful. You can find more candid book reviews on my Amazon profile page.
It’s beautiful and powerful as we’re used to from the author and it’s angsty and makes you think a lot of what would you do in those moments, the decisions that you’ve made would be the same? The feelings?
This book in true Hoover style delivers the punch and leaves you reeling. Then in Hoover style she very cleverly and patiently puts you back together. Well defined characters and heartbreaking narrative. Broke my heart but loved it anyway.

@colleenhoover has not let us down (does she ever)💜
I could not put this book down I got though it so quickly, which I hate when im loving a book I just want to continue reading.
Regretting you is in two points of view, Morgan and Clara who are mother and daughter and due to circumstances have a strained relationship, you get to see both romances and I honestly thought I would probably prefer one and would just want to read that one point on view more, but I was wrong!
Colleen Hoover is such a versatile author so you never quiet no what your going to get especially now after verity- I’m always excited for new releases and have loved every book.
Regretting you has sweetness, sadness and a pinch of angst it’s about family, grief and betrayal and first loves.
I couldn’t recommend regretting you (or any of her books) more if you haven’t read regretting you (or any of Colleen’s books) that needs to change 💜
The writing is wonderful, the characters were complex and real and memorable.
Colleen has always had a wonderful way of transporting you into her characters world and you can almost live through them and feel their emotions. I find her books incredibly easy to read, and this book was no exception. I recently took this book on holiday with me and i found I couldn’t wait to get back to it and read more of the story much to my partners annoyance!
It made me smile and feel warm inside and I think in a world where things can be so bleak and sad a book like this can be extremely up lifting.
It’s not all rainbows and butterflies and there’s lots of sadness in the mix but weather that storm and you’ll find yourself feeling warm and toasty again in no time. The characters are lovable and relatable and there’s twists and turns you may see coming or may completely blindside you, you’ll only know if you purchase, which you should!
I’m envious of anyone who has just discovered Colleen Hoover because you get to enjoy all of her books and binge them, whereas I’m waiting for the next one... and the next one.. and the one after that! Enjoy!
Colleen has written this in a dual POV filled with emotion and heart. There were some sad times that made me shed a tear or two but there was also some really heartfelt moments too. The characters were brilliant and really relatable which added to my enjoyment of this one.
I had no clue about the storyline when I started this, I just went into it blind and excited getting a chance to read a CoHo book and she didn't disappoint me. I will certainly be reading more from CoHo very soon.
Or a watermelon flavoured Jolly Rancher. It’s just a sweet of a particular flavour. In Regretting You it becomes so much more than a sweet.
The colour orange. It’s inoffensive. I can only wear it if it’s on my Bright Side T-shirt because a little orange book makes orange cool!
