(This is the complete compilation of The Governess volumes.)

Lovely, inexperienced Miss Carly Blakemore, only nineteen years of age, is received at her first post as governess for two precocious children, ready to love them as her own. But her biggest challenge will be their father; masterful and strong in everything—especially his kiss.

Poor and without dowry—and even worse—now orphaned, Miss Carly Blakemore is thrown into the Victorian world without aid. Carly is forced to seek a position as governess in the house of Lord Huntington, the Earl of Dunfordshire—a man alone in his own right—and under suspicion for the tragic murder of his well-known and adulteress wife. His governess’s honesty and forthrightness quickly offend his noble person, and he finds himself reeling from her constant evaluation of his lack of parenting skills. However, in the midst of his resentments, he finds himself strangely drawn in by her very no-nonsense ways that drive him to madness. Carly stands her ground in head-to-head battles of will that take her to the brink of dismissal.

Carly and the earl continually fight the feelings growing between them. Both are oblivious to the clouds of deceit and intrigue that are growing around the manor house, some bent upon removing the beautiful, headstrong governess permanently. A final desperate chase leads to an interception of a ship upon the high seas headed for the Mediterranean and a secret society of white-slave traders.

I read all three volumes of this story. There was romance as well as intrigue as to how things were going to work out. A lovely story of a young woman whose daily life always showed her christian upbringing and beliefs in the way she was honest and straight forward and her love for the children she cared for in the role of governess.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very Enjoyable! 27 June 2015

Ellise, I so enjoyed the Trilogy!๐Ÿ˜Š. It had so many components.....adventure, mystery, romance! The characters were well played out, yet I wish Lord H. Was not so aggressive to Carly.....he was actually too rough at times, but then he got. Hold of himself and acted the proper gentleman!๐Ÿ˜Š. I realize he did not want to trust and fall in love again, thus the waring inside. Also, I was pleased to see reference to God, and prayer ๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ‘
All in all, a great series! Thanks so much and cannot wait to read The next book, Pirate Bride.

3.0 out of 5 stars Mixed Emotions - Good, Bad and Plot Twists on steroids! 29 February 2016

(Kind of some spoilers I guess... so beware!)

I finally finished all three volumes of this book. I did enjoy it, but I do not think I will pick up the next book.

The first volume was captivating! I loved it, it really pulled me into the story and I could not put it down. I loved the characters, and the tension. Although Mr.H's short fuse was seriously explosive and I felt didn't really suit that era. I get angry, and moody but his explosive behaviour and violence almost, was a bit crazy.

I then struggled to get the second volume onto my kindle (I ended up buying the full book on my kindle as I couldn't locate Volume 2 by itself). I was extremely anxious to find out how the story continued, but to my disappointment, volume two was less interesting by far, and so repetitive! Seriously it was like ... Carly I love you (Mr.H)... Oh I don't think I can trust you (Carly)...again, and again.... and again... and again... OH MY GOD you are looking at another girl and dancing with them and talking with them... I must be boring and worthless and you must be a cad! I have to leave! (Carly). I felt she had ZERO confidence in herself, and I know she had reasons to doubt a mans loyalty. But this was beyond ridiculous in my opinion. It was so frustrating at some points, I had to put it down and walk away.

I was happy to be pulled into the third volume away from the boring repetitive volume 2!... I literally had 30 minutes left in the book and the action packed into this last part of the book was like an Arnie movie on steroids. It was one twist /near death experience after another. I actually was thinking, someone has to succeed in killing this chick soon, because there has been so many attempts on her life its worse than a horror movie.

I enjoyed how the book ended (finally) but I am not sure I am ready to read the next book after that one. I found most of it very frustrating, and that saddens me, because I did want to see the happily ever afters of those other characters.

In saying all this, this book was very well written, easy flow, and even in those repetitive spots as a reader you are still glued to your book (or kindle) at 3am!
